Growing indoors off grid in hardtimes, anyone know about Solar Power?

I've always had a concern with Govt. control and a technocratic slave grid being put in place to control facets of our lives that no free man should have to put up with.

Such as the State controlling your electrical consumption like California tried 2 years ago but failed to implement>

Then theres also the very good chance of a total economic collapse like that of 1929 that caused the Depression to take place.

In either case, I would like to be able to keep growing no matter what, and I want to grow INDOORS, not outdoors.

I've always believed that the average stoner could keep a decent sized stash using a 250 watt HPS and at least a 2.5x.2.5 grow space.

In an extreme situation where electricity was either non-existent or very limited, how many solar panels and storage batteries would it take to always have on hand enough juice to power a 250 watt HPS for 12 hours ? and I mean 12 hours everyday CONTINUALLY. It would be nice to always have a 6 ounce dry yield every 60-70 days when other people either had no electricity to grow or had the State control their consumption cutting back their power when they hit a certain cap.

I'm looking very soon to move to a rural area and I'd like to have a set up like this kit where if the worst case scenario happened I could keep growing a personal supply. A little pricey but not impossible to afford>

A 250w light at $300/z only makes $8300/year (0.5g/watt).

So yea, you'd pay off your solar investment in about 8 months worth of growing.

http://www.affordable-solar.com/large-solar-power-system-off-grid-6560-watt.htm is nice too -- it brings you from $15.00 per installed watt of usable power to $5.00. Lot of power, though! Then again you can fully run 6 1000watt lights PLUS all of the accessories required for $35k. That means you can have enough energy to bring in $230,400 @$300/z and 2lbs/1kw and only need one harvest to pay for it.

Now that's cool. :)

This is a freakin awesome idea. I love the idea of going off the grid and finally getting away from the good old boys network.

I want to go solar too, but I'm just not sure where the heck I'd put the solar panels. I'm renting my place now, and the landlord might not be too cool with the panels.

They already think I'm a bit of a wacko anyway...don't want to call any more attention to myself....LOL

i am off grid in a city, las vegas, nevada us city power for batter recharge only, 24vdc ref. three air conditioners wall models, one 400 watt hps one 150 watt hps three fans all 120 vac all on 3.5 kw solar for ten thousand minis federal rebates thats 30 % then three year federal deprecation the system will pay for itself, not counting the bud.

Damn! i see allot of people that have those down in the harbour where i live. Never knew they were powerful enough and cheap enough(10grand as stated above) to power a growing operation.

here is the link i use on my solar system to buy 3.5 kw and for other people 1.20 a watt can to, ecobusnesslink.com/solar that is stock market for solar panels.sweet

There is no economic collapse coming. We are already in the process of recovery and our debt problems are finally being addressed.

Growin' some green green lol

Who cares if were out of the woods this time and a economy is turning around.

There are so many benefits to being off the grid, even in a perfect economic environment.

Self sustainability
Eco friendly
No one snooping around
No energy bills to pay

Just to name a few.

one thing we all agree about may it be pge or whatever electric company the price is not going down my electric bill was 250 a month ,then i installed solar now about 38 to 40 forever the sun is not going away . in eighteen months in electric savings old bill 250 minus 40 new bill 210 a month times eighteen months in my pocket 3700 . 3000 from presdent obama thats total 6700 then 3300 this year rebate thats 10000 thats what the total cost was panels warrenty for thirty years. going green pays

The cost of your solar system depends on several things. One, you need a sunny spot with no shadowing. Two, you need to know the Peak Sun Hours for your area. Then you can use this formula to figure out the size of system that you will need.

average kWh (kilowatt hours) per day divided by the inverter efficiency divided by your Peak Sun Hours.

So, for example my average kWh per day is 10.28 KW
My inverter efficiency is 95%
My PSH is 5.1

10.28/95%/5.1 = 2.23 KW system.

I support solar power all the way. It's a good investment!

Off grid power system or on grid supplemental power is very possible. Shoot me a PM an we can discuss solar/wind/or natural gas powered power systems.

You need PV panels, 12v Deep Cycle Batteries and power inverters. You can even get connected back into the grid so that you sell your excess power back to the power co. You get a check from the power co instead of a bill each month. My parents have a small 2.5KW system on their lake cabin and they only use it for a period in the summer so they actually make money on it.
