WELCOME TO HELL BOX 2010

I added almost a gallon of water to the res today, finished off the jug on my morning glories i have outside.

I check for sex daily, I know its too early but i'm new at this so i hover over the plants like a new father. temps are holding at 88 degrees today with 32 percent humidity.

Oh how I am hoping for a female out of the four, I have only been flowering since 3-31-2010. I haven't sexed a plant before but I've been studying the book by Jorge Cervantes, and this forum.

This is such good practice for when i can use my names strains. I have bubblelicious femmed seeds and ordered some northern lights femmed seeds. Should have them early in the week. I wont be staggering the named seeds, I will plant all the seeds at the same time so growth can be closer to even. Although having plants at various stages is very educational to say the least.

Oh yeah, I've read that post. It has tons of great information in it. I read everything i can come across, and watch every video i can watch. I just simply love growing MJ so far. The plant its self is beautiful to me. It's a true wonder of nature to grow something from seed that has so many benefits.

I keep the first rule of growing close to my heart. DO NOT TELL ANYONE. Thank goodness for this site, My best friend i smoke with doesn't even know. Im a mid night toker as Steve miller put it. No one in my life knows i grow and i like it that way.

I had a thought as i was reading another members battles with heat in a cabinet. Maybe i should pick up a couple clip on Air King 9145 6-Inch 2-Speed Clip-On Fan and replace the 120mm comp fans completely. i would keep the 100 cfm fan and create a second exhaust up high with the clip on fan. then at plant level i will use one clip on as a powered intake.

Does this sound reasonable?

I just have this feeling i can shave off a few more degrees from the maximum.

I ordered two of the clip fans, One can never have enough fans in this hobby. My largest plant is doing great, no sign of sex yet but i continue to check.

I moved the largest short rider and the new seedling, swapping their places. this gives each plant more room.

The next place i live, i will make sure to have two areas setup, it would be so much easier with a flowering area separate from my veg room.

What do these fans look like, got any links?

Dood, i got too many computer fans and bathroom fans, its a fricken joke, once im dialled in im gonna burn half of em!

Hey man, kind words are all good, seeing your set up is encouraging to me man!!

Got a couple questions actually, how much did you pay for your air pump and how much noise does it make?

I love the idea of a dwc the same size as yours for keepin a mother, the 10L tubs fit perfectly in my space...

Love and light JP

you know, looking at that pic, i just think you would bennefit more without the sides on that reflector/hood, just seems like a big heat trap. you will get more reflection from the bulbs off the stuff you have on the walls than that hood. now im no expert and i dont want to mess you up, use your own judgement, but that was the single most factor that brought temps down in mine was removing that hood. just something to think about.

I've been actually thinking about how to replace that hood. Im not happy with it at all. It's made of metal and although it doesn't get hot, underneath it the temps do rise. Maybe i can take it apart and just keep the fixtures and power cord.

the clip fans are these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007Q3RRU/ref=oss_product

i just wont install the clip on the fan and stick the ass end into the intake hole and mount the other fan on the outside of the box so its an exhaust. that way my exhaust is still the dominate force in the box but plenty of fresh air should be able to move in there.

I bought a dual aquarium pump for about 23 dollars and its 98% quiet and i placed it on a tshirt to decrease the vibration. I'm using stealth air line tube and two six inch air stones.

I took a close look at my reflector and it bolts on to the fixture bar with eye bolts and nuts.
two eye bolts connect the metal reflector to the fixture bar.

the reflector metal Is all one piece and bolted on in two spots with eye bolts. I can use those eye bolts to hang the bar with two yo yo hangers.

See attached pics to get a better idea what I am talking about.

ever notice you cant find the tool when you need it? I have managed to lose every single wrench i own. Im down to a pair of small pliers and a multi tool but hopefully i can get the reflector taken apart by tomorrow afternoon. It's nighty night time for the plants so i'll work on that tomorrow.

As a test i measured the air temp above the reflector and below the reflector and there was only one degree of difference, does that mean taking the hood off wont help with the heat?

I replaced one 120mm fan with a small clip on fan. It moves more air. really all i did was stick the ass end into the hole i already had cut for an intake. I have two more fans on order, One as a general air mover and one as an exhaust. if that doesn't help, then the answer isn't in the fans.

Ambient temp has most of the blame since it is in an un-air conditioned closet. Except for growing speed, the plants seem unaffected by the heat. I got the smallest bag seed plant caught in the 120mm fan so i topped it without meaning to.
its day six of 12/12 and no sex signs yet on the largest plant. I check daily just to be safe even though i know its still too early to tell.

Get some fans blowing directly on those bulbs it makes an enormous difference, CFL's are easy to cool i bought 4 little 4" fans from wal-mart, they are Massey brand, and were 6 dollars and are amazing. i have 10 23watt 2700k and my temps get to around 84 but most of the time stay around 79. but i have to have the door cracked of the box like an inch lol. im going to try and find a portable AC and vent in and make some carbon filters for my exhaust since im starting flowering. goodluck with the heat man, its an ongoing battle with little boxes.
