will a 24 hour light cycle stress plants?

for the first time, I'm starting indoors this season (and going outdoors for a guerilla grow later)

anyway, i've heard conflicting views on this, so i was curious if anybody had personal experience...

are plants more likely to herm later in life if they're under 24 hours of light during seedling/partial veg?

I'd imagine there are some variances- depending on the strain's native geographic location....i'm using bagseed though, so I can't provide any info there

Any feedback is appreciated tho

(plants are under 4-foot, 40-watt full-spectrum fluoro grow lights, 2700 lumens)

24 hrs light just costs alittle bit more is the only down side i can think of, But it dont stress em i always used 24/7 light tell i flower or go outside with em. More time Veging in the light = More growth for me.
I only use dark pierods for when its hot in the middle of the afternoon to cool down the grow rm.

I always go 24/0 for the first two weeks then go to 20/4 in the third week and either keep it there until flowering. But I think this time Ill go 18/6. I hear the dark time is good because when the lights are on the plant it is focusing on the leaves and growth but when lights are off it has focuses on root growth and development......but thats just what I have concluded from my research. +reps to you though for good question

I don't think a 24 hour light period would stress a plant out enough to turn it hermie, I've been doing 24/0 since i first started and i've had no hermies at all!

Its the heat that will stress them not the 24. 24 is great to veg if you want a big girl but its on you.

I thought this was the outdoor forum? I use 24/7 for the first two weeks after germination, go to 18/7 and then cut the lighting an hour a week down to 15/7 to prepare plants to go outside.

It is an outdoor forum. he ask about lighting cycle till they're ready to go outside. his question was appropriate.

I was referring to some of the answers. 24/7 or even 18/7 and then outside will create some very confused growers as their plants immediately go into flowering during the peak vegetation growth period.

You can start seeds under 24 hour light but you absolutely have to put them in their home outside before they reach sexual maturity.

If you allow them to preflower inside ( 1-1/2 - 2 months old) and then put them outside, you are risking early spring flowering / revegging plants.

See if you had clones under 24 hour light and put them outside, even on the longest day of the year, they will start to flower. Because they are mature, and a large photo-period shock sends the hormones of the plants into flower mode.

An Immature seedling plant will not have proper hormone level to start flowering. But a mature 2 month old vegging plant that shows preflowers does. and so do clones.

yeah, he wouldn't wanna leave them to long and then go outside, for trouble would likely follow! I understand what you're getting at!:bigjoint:

Total agreement. On my seed grows I begin looking for preflowering at 4-6 weeks and always slowly get my indoor lighting down (hour a week for me) to match outside light before permanently putting them outside.

I start indoors in March and due to inclement weather with freezes don't go outside full time until May.

I have ran me veg room for 24 on for years now. Everything is all good for me! But I have heard that plants actually grow faster on 18/6:leaf:

I have seen some plants flower when going from 24/0 to 18/6. It doesn't take 12/12 to make a plant flower. I don't think it's ever really 12/12 outdoors. Anything close will make them flower.

I have a group of 24/0 friends a group of 18/6 friends. The opinion of the 18/6 crowd is that you will get more growth with 18/6 because everything living does need rest at some point. They also feel that their plants grow during the dark period. More dark is more growth. Like when you flip them to 12/12 indoors, suddenly you get a massive stretch even though you are only at 12 hours of light...it's the 12 hours of dark where they grow.

Just their opinions.

I've done both and can't really tell any difference.

A cloner I know runs 24/0 solely to avoid powdery mildew. In SoCal PM can happen anywhere any time.

thanks everybody

I'll keep them at 24/7

well, I've felt obligated to keep the 24-cycle constant now that I've started doing that....wouldn't want to confuse/disrupt the plant now
