Tryying to top

When is it too late to top a plant i picked some clones up from the shop about 3 weeks ago and they been under 18/6 since then...

well before i switch to 12/12 in 1-2 weeks would it be to late to top 1 or 2 of my plants. i plan to move them outdoor to make more room in my grow room.

I always just top in veg stage I'm not sure about flowering if it's that early it may be ok any one else??
