so i asked my friend who has grown before about what to do with seeds, he said i should make the soil moist put the seed no more then 1 inch in the soil cover over and leave in a cold damp place, till it sprouts, but he isnt certain how much sunlight is okay for when it first, sprouts would 12/12 kill it or would it be fine and whats your thoughts on the shade thing till it sprouts ??
Welcome to RIU, you should germinate first not just throw it in the soil. To germinate follow these steps.
1. Grab a paper towel and get it damp.
2. Fold the paper towel once or twice, and place however many seeds in the middle of it.
3. Then place the damp paper towel with seeds inside, inside a ziploc bag or a plate with syran wrap on top.
4. Next set the plate or bag in a warm dark place (ontop of a cable or satellite box works good for warmth).
5. In 24-48hrs the seeds should crack and have a little white tail comming out, this is the taproot. (older seeds will take longer to germinate than new seeds).
6. Once the white tail pops out make a little hole in you soil with the white tail or taproot DOWN, make sure it is about 1/4 inch under the soil and cover it up.
7. In a coiple days the sprout shoulf pop out of the soil.
Just remember that if your growing bagseeds (seeds that you find in a bag of weed you smoked) they usually do not all germinate, but if you bought them online they usually have a higher germination rate.
No it will not kill your sprout if you give it 12/12 sunlight. At 12/12 is when marijuana will start to flower, but the plant must first reach maturity which takes a month or two. But lots of people give their plants 12/12 light as soon as it sprouts so it will start flowering right when it hits maturity. You don't hsve to put the sprout in shade, i place my potted seed in the sunlight right after i place it in the soil after germination.
I'll give you some other tips for growing. When the plant gets mature and you can tell its sex(white hairs in the nodes for females and small pollen sacs for males, google pictures for better understanding) seperate and chop down the males as they will pollenate the females, and if the females have seeds the quality of bud usually goes down. Try to pick a spot with ample sunlight but also a place away and not noticable by other people. Do not tell people you grow as word will get around (i still have trouble with this one). When you walk to your grow spot make sure no one is around, and that you don't take the same way every day. Try to keep your seedlings inside or safe until they get 6"-12" tall before bringing them to your grow spot because animals will easily eat them. Make sure you have a good size pot (5 gallons or maybe more) and that they don't go without water for to long. And lastly if growin on someone elses property, try to be curtious and don't trash the place or anything like that, because we are not bad people as growers and we don't want to be bad neighbors.
Seeing as you are really new try not to ask a bunch of easy questions, use the search tool. Also google some begginer growing guides and just read up a lot on the forums, just educate yourself. Thats what i did and i'd like to think i know a good amoumt of imfo on growing.
-Good Luck!
