Smart Pots outside- how large?

I want to try a few smart pots for an out door grow this year. I was asking around and it seems that some are suggesting a 200 gallon size! I think they take about two yards of soil each!

I was also thinking of using a mix of (40% cocopete, 10% peat moss, 15% compost, 10% aged sawdust, 10% perlite, 15% pumice. Then add corm castings, seabird guano, kelp meal, fish bone meal, feather meal, greensand, live earth humates, alfalfa meal, soybean meal, fish meal, glacial rock dust.) All Ph'ed to 6.1

This all adds up quickly and I need to start moving now. Is 200 gallon way over kill?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

man its a about 1-2 gallons for vertical foot of growth you want. not always works, i.e. sativa or indica dominant alter this. those 200 gallons are for big trees to be grown and easily transplanted.

I don't know about that. I wouldn't grow a 7'+ plant in a 14 Gallon container outside. That sound like a minimum size container. It will work but the plant will not yield the same and watering would be an issue too. I am looking for the size of diminishing returns. (not looking for Over-Kill)

idk. i have no experience with outside. all IMO i just feel a 50" by 24" container is a little excessive. maybe a 100 gallon. maybe someone who has good outdoors experience can answer this one

check it out I was thinking of the same thing or maybe 300 gallon..maybe even work the soil underneath so the roots spread even further!!!deff not overkill if you want the weight!!!that's just how we do it on the west coast...don't expect everyone to catch on..BTW you can also order custom SP's that are more shallow just a wider 200gal. even better huh!!!peace happy growin'

glassblower- You think a custom SP would be a better way to go? I guess I can have my wife make a few. Seems like pond-liner pads are made of the same stuff.

Looks like I was a bit off on the Volume in Cubic Yards, it's 1 CuYd for the 200 Gal.

I'm going with mostly 200 gallon pots and also going to try one 400 and one 600 gallon pot. The 200 gallon pots will be filled with two or three different custom mixes.

We'll see. I'm going to pick them up today. The 600 takes just about 3 CuYd! I hope it's worth it and I hope to be able to use it for another season or two? One 600 gallon SP will cost about $350.00 once filled and ready. Huge beautiful plant grown to its full potential, priceless!

I started out thinking a 65 gallon was large, don't know if I lost my marbles or what. Am I craZy to go this large? Well, I guess we'll see cuz I'm going for it. But let me know anyway if you think this is way over kill. I know I can grow a large hardwood tree in this size container. will the plants I put in there be able to fill it up in one season? If nothing else it will help with watering and the hot days of summer.

I say no it is not overkill. Strain dependent you will have a few lbs coming out of those pots. Go for it that why I know you will stay within the limit for sure. You will probably get as much off one plant in those pots as I would with twenty plants again strain dependent. have fun I know a guy on another forum who lives buy the 200 gallon pots.
