Why not to induce flowering to early

When to Induce Flowering on Indoor Plants

The more time a plant spends in vegetative growth before flowering, the more fruit or flowers the plant will yield. The reason for this is that the longer the plant is left vegetating, the more it can build up energy storage reserves —especially in its roots.

Because of indoor limitations (particularly in marijuana), weed famers must choose a point to put their plants into production, at the first opportunity.

Plants will double in size before full flowering and fruiting; so to produce a plant that is yielding fully at a final height of 24-36 inches, it should be put into production at about 12-14 inches tall.

If the marijuana plants are put into production too early, they will not have sufficient energy reserves built up to produce a big yield. If you compensate with spacing plants closer, the leaves tend to canopy too much, and although the leaf coverage is extensive, the yield will not be great.

I uhh think I agree. Soo.. what do you recommend as the proper amount of time or growth, what are the indicators you look for? VV

Thats interesting. My ice plants are that tall after a week or two. I'm asking what are the indicators, like node spacing etc. that he may use. VV

sorry to bring up an old thread but where do pre-flowers come into play here? i read somewhere, still trying to find it again, that if flowering is induced before preflowering that the chances of hermies is largely increased. anybody?

if you have a question...its always valuable to bring it forward...no need to apologize on here.

I am not one that believe the "inducing" flowering is productive. I believe that flowering is part of the genetic map - that means within specific limits, a plants flowering is mostly predetermined. There are those that will debate that vehemently, but that is what I believe.

trying to flower a plant prior to preflower is a form of stress on the plant. and it is generally accepted (I believe) that additional stess can produce hermies. so you thought logic (to me) would make sense. Though I do not have any specific or direct evidence of such.

inducing flowering and other techniques widely applied seems to be directly realted to the objective of speed....and this is part of the outcome from commercial interests. gotta get the product to market the fastest possible...cuz thats cash in the jeans. and so has come the strains that are autoflower or early flower or whatever.

In so many cases, for so many of us, space is a limiting factor, and if you vege each plant to its preflower stage, then you may end up with plants that very quickly outgrow your entire grow space. so it comes to strain selection to make sure it suits your needs (timing, space, etc). :blsmoke:

good luck man!:hump:

thanks w33d, i dont think anyone had mentioned rather preflowers show different on sativa than indica so that only adds more questions.

but like tahoe said, my grow space IS limited. i started with 8 seedlings two didnt sprout, so i am left with 6. i started with more than i could bring to bud to increase the chances of getting enough females. so im a little more convinced that ill be okay flowering at 4 weeks, which will be 17th of this month. expect pictures. thanks tahoe!

So when does one induce flowering? When the plant reaches 12-14 inches? It can't be that simple can it? I mean you could veg a plant longer to increase yeild and size right? or to your pleasing i assume.

inducing flowering is a lost leader....flowering is a gegetic trait that is a function of the genetic map provided at birth....alterations to that flowering schedule are limited. a plant must be vegedc until they prelfower....period....that is the genetic map. some variation may be induced but mnior on the longer scheme of things. generally, flowering prior to preflower, only indes a LONGER flowering period. wait for the plant....she will tell you.

one would induce flowering in accordance with there grow room specs. if you have 3 foot high space then 12 inches would be ideal depending on the size of your light.the plants can double or even triple size when induced to flower but genetics also play a role if its short indica or tall sativa or a mix or ruderalis. but if you flower to early then you wont get your full advantage.

This may sound outrageous, but I have a plant that is about 6'6". It just started showing male signs, but only in the top 6 sets of branches. Is it a male or a hermie? I know I did something wrong, but really I kinda frll into growing experimentally to get the hang of it before I shell out for some seeds. I used like a 5 or 6 gal pot, mixed some soil, dropped the seeds and watered every few days. I havent even really fed the plant too much, at least I dont think. Should I try to induce flowering? I have no clue, because I have read so many different things.

Well im just confused, I grow clones, my clones are female.... so that means right when i cut them and get them rooted they are ready? So then the genetic mapping goes out the window? Im just trying to find out if it is ok to basically root my clones good and tight then flower them? because the clones I get are already 8"+ so they are basically ready for flowering riiight?

They are ready when the root system is strong enough to handle the nutes your gonna apply to get that bud !!!!

what if the plant is tall due to newbie inexperience.... won't the height be wrong in that situation? so instead of going by height, what is a good time?

my almost 4 week old plant is in a soil with nutes and it is burning the leaves..
i cant do anything about the soil i dont have other options..
is it true that if i start the 12/12 and induce flowering now gonna help decrease the nute burn because the plant will start using the nutes?
heres a pic of it

Its not really that bad.Dont flush the soil or water really heavy but still water so the plant gets enough water,it will start to use all those nutes up soon then it will get difficiant so either way your gonna have face the music. :leaf:

I like to let mine veg for at least a month but if they get too tall during that period I have to start flowering before that.

Well I am addicted to pot porn now! I have been reading so much stuff that I got the answer. There are good detailed posts with entirly 12/12 grow from seed.....he got pretty good results except some stretching. It was just a giant cola(1oz). 15 giant colas do be exact. Anyways there is some good tips like using clear plastic cup inside blue/red solo cup. This way you can see the roots grow without light damaging them. This could be used as a meathod of survival if it came down to it!!! A few plastic cups, a rotten tomato, a pepper, and an everything bagel! That would have you set on a desert island! All i'm saying is I have benefitted from reading about pot cause it interested me enough to learn about plants/tree, light, water properties, General Pruning, harvisting knowledge. Plus the fact that I am able to read/type alot faster now!!! How about this cycle.....in days..... Seedling day 1-14 of (24hrs) day 14-30 (16on-8off) then flower (12on-12off) day 31-90 Stoned as Bat (24/7) day 102-160. And you have only spent little over 1/3 year of your life......better knowledge aquisition that state colleges!!!!!
