I have posted this in a few other threads to prove a point,

Everyone pretty much knows that I grew a plant under 97 watts of light, what they don't know is that I also teach others to do it :bigjoint:

these pics are from one of my local students grows

He is using just two 23 watt cfl's and two 24 inch dual T5's in a cabinet he designed

You can clearly see the size of the main cola comparred to the cfl in the pic it is as big as my forearm

The overall point here is to truely show how important it is to understand how to use lights properly :bigjoint:

Enjoy the pics

Interesting reads Riddle. I don't leaf my plants either, but i have been wondering if doing some pruning/removal of lower branches might not be worthwhile. The theory on that goes that those branches and buds aren't getting enough light to ever ripen up enough to be worth while, and that removing them allows the plant to concentrate all it's effort into the branches/buds that are actually getting enough light to produce large buds and colas. It seems logical, but I can't help feeling that there has to be a better option.

Thank you I am trying to post enough info from other sources (not just me saying it) to get folks to understand a few simple things. This plant is very good at taking care of itself despite the things we do to it :bigjoint:

If left alone to thrive in good conditions it will reward us well

Leaves and branches that are in the shade will adapt and perform varying functions that the plant will benefit from, it's natures way, folks just need to understand it better to improve how we grow it

To many people want quanity over quality and that is just a big crying shame IMO

Not saying that is you cause I believe that you are like me in terms of growing for quality :bigjoint:

I also am a student of Riddle and have followed his advice about the growing of this plant. To prove that the methodes he speakes of just look at what my last grow looked like.

This was day 51 of veg. Although they finished nicely(being stunted affected quantity but quality was there) after learning and reading a little, I now have this girl going.

This was at around day 30 or so.

Thanks Big

That is a glowing testimonial that I appreciate wholeheartedly

pic's are worth a 1000 words

and the more the words get spread the more great crops and happy stoners there are :bigjoint:

I just started growing a few weeks ago, but I can already tell that you know your plant inside out. Thanks for all the info, it's really appreciated!

Riddle,

Your right, I'm more about quality, but that doesn't mean i wouldn't like to see 1/2 pound harvests either. :) I finally got a chance to weigh what i got out of the first plant of my Opium grow, and it was about as bad as I had expected. Came out to a whole 22 grams, which is 6 grams shy of my minimum requirements per plant to avoid paying dispensary prices. Two of the remaining plants should give me an oz each, but the rest are going to be like this one was and end up at around 20 grams. That's assuming they ever get done flowering, of course. I'm starting to think the person I got the clones from didn't really know anything about how the strain grows, because it sure as heck hasn't done anything he predicted.

The good news is that my blueberries are going like gangbusters. The oldest of them are a bit over 33" now and are flowering nicely, and everything I've been able to learn about the strain indicates that should finish up in no more then 8 weeks. The strain has sort of a weird rep from what I've been able to gather though. I've had no problems growing them whatsoever, but apparently a lot of people think these things are a pain in the rear to grow properly. I'm running things hotter and drier then is normal (temps as high as 90 and humidity never goes over 30%) and they don't seem to mind at all. My guess is that this strains genetics come from Indicas that evolved to grow in a hot and dry area, and that it has a predisposition to grow better at ranges that are lower in humidity and higher in temp then what is usually considered normal for Cannabis. At least that's the only reason i see why my grow should be having no problems when much more experienced growers who are using "proper" environments can't get the strain to grow correctly.

ITs possible that the heat cost you bud, jorge says cannibus completely stops growth at 85, however I have heard 90. Having your temp in this range is costing you probably. Also heat pockets do the same. Heat pockets could be at like 100 degrees in places in ur room if ur circ isnt perfect.

Your for sure on track to get those 1/2 pound yields so not a worry there

and the info on the blueberries is interesting and def reinforces what I tell folks about mixing strains in a grow and taking notes

You may have found a strain that likes your gardens high temps that is a good thing till you figure out a way to get the temps lower

hey blazed,
i can agree that high temps are a bad thing in certain situations. but lets say the plant pops the soil, flowers, and otherwise thrives in this "undesirable" environment. wouldnt that make these claims that cannibus completely stops growth at 85 or 90 as much speculation as it is science? not trying to start anything, but I am thinking of mother nature here. she is the most unpredicatable women (like they all are't!!) we will ever know. and sometimes plants dont survive mother nature, our dear ms mary and all other species included. but to Ed's grow, his plant may not have thrived as he wanted or expected, but it grew to a ripe ole plant in the environment which he could offer it.

Yeah strains that originated in the tropical equator regions do fine at temps up to 100 (or better)

and if there is plenty of CO2 present temps in the 90's are not a problem

The reason Jorge says this is because most of the seeds we buy are from indoor grows and have geneically adapted to the lower temp conditions we all shoot for

correct, I agree there are ALWAYS strains that differ from the median. I was just stating what I have heard and have done no further testing on that subject. Asking my parents, they told me that ALL plants are different but do depend on the environment they come from. Let me show you what I mean. In alaska they have bears just like we do down south. However their bears have adapted to the cold weather by getting thicker fur and other evolutionary traits. Also their color for hiding in snow. Plants behave the same way. If you get an afghani plant, that was evolutionarily evolved in a hot climate, I would speculate 90-100 would be sufficient if not preffered. Now hybrids make things interesting, that Is why I would consider keeping your temps under 85 unless you know EXACTLY what climate you plant comes from. I dont know if jorge is correct about it stopping growth, however I use his number as a general stopping point when I dont have the backround I need.

Edit: Also, I love to debate keep it civil please :)

Ok riddle, I have decided to use your method of fertilizing and watering for my flowering stage, I have a few questions. Ok its my first weeks of flowering, I watered 7 days ago and the soil is dry. I will then flush the plant with plain water untill there is plenty of run off. Then after its dry again in a few days I will fertilize which will take another 7 days to dry out. Then repeat? is this exactly the way I should do this while flowering?

You do not want to let it dry out before feeding stick your finger in the soil looking for moisture 3 to 4 inches down when this happens feed and expect it to happen within 2 days not 7, the plant will go into overdrive if conditions are right, you want stress free transporation which means the leaves will appear relaxed, not standin up or drooping, or curling. also the heat index thing I explain works for dialing proper temp vs humidity to aid in this faster transporation rate

keep an eye on em after you feed cause it will also happen faster (drying out), I like to watch for a slight droop in the leaves and then go again as long as the stems don't droop you are totally ok doing this, but others like to wiegh the pot

I know im not supposed to let it dry out, I meant dry enough to water. IT takes 7 days in the pots im using on average. So I DO flush it when its time to water wait 2 days and then fertilize?

can't just simply wait 2 days you do need to check it, 2 days is my experience but your mileage may vary, putting them on "your" schedule is wrong gotta let the plant make it's own schedule according to the overall conditions

before I start the make it rain thing my plants will go 5 to 7 days as well
