Another home made carbon filter.

Hi all.
My white widow is 7 weeks into flowering and finally got around to building a carbon filter as she STINKS!
I have a 400w HPS with cool tube that sucks air from the grow room over the bulb and out through a vent at the top of the cupboard (closet)

Step 1:
bought a metal screen from the DIY store (£4.50) and a pack of activated carbon from ebay (£3.00)

Step 2:
Cut the screen to size and fitted a base about 3cm from the bottom. The whole thing is held together with a few cable ties.

Step 3:
Lined the inside with a carbon sheet to stop the carbon bits from falling out. Smoked a fatty and then stiched the sheet in place with a needle and thread (with a little help from the girlfriend). Didn't have enough metal screen left to fill the base properly, but not a problem.

Step 4:
Continued to line the inside with the carbon sheet. Filled it up with the activated carbon and sealed the end with more metal screen.

It fitted nicely over the end of my cooltube which draws air in from the grow room to be pumped out at the top.

The air flow is a little restricted but the smell has gone!

Here's my stinky plant - 1 white widow, LST'd, Fimmed and SCROG'd. Grow journal is in my sig.

Hope this helps someone.

Happy growing :bigjoint:

I just put something together so getto. Stapled a couple dryer sheets together. Took a piece of 6" duct and duct taped them into it from the top forming a pouch or little bowl of dryer sheet. Now I will simply throw some carbon in there an inch deep or so and place it in the vertical part of my exhaust before the fan.

Wait, am I missing something. The sides are screen, what makes it pull air from the lamp instead of thru the sides?

its supposed to pull through that way, its on the end that opens to the growroom, the fan sucks the air through the filter, into the reflector hood, through the duct and out to venting.

Nice set up. I accidentally broke a branch off my auto and am trying to clone. Since it is week 4 and starting to flower, I know it won't do much but even if a joint or two will be better than trashing. Anyone ever tried this?
