Hey all need some help 5 gallon recyled paper pots good?

so i went down to my local garden center to purchase some pots as i will be growing next to a river with sandy soil. I noticed the 5 gallon pots were like 3 bucks each and i need a good amount! then i saw these recyled paper 5 gallon pots i think the same material as the pots browndirtwarrior used they look pretty sturdy im just worried they might break down in the rain ?

are you going to bury them? or leave them on top of the ground? i think they are made for burying.

they last while but they dry out faster then plastic and rip easy when wet. Some time stores have old 5 gallon bucks out back just drill a few holes in them or take a hammer and a nail and there free.

yea dude you should be good for atleast a crop, but they will break down after awhile. and i would also bury them, like 1/2 way to 3/4 buried.

Throw a few wraps of duct tape around the outside to bolster it...... they will last.

do you think 5 gallon is big enough i mean they look smaller then the 5 gallon buckets? i grew a big bush last year in a 5 gallon bucket so i guess it should be fine that way i can also move a few of the males to make some seeds for next year

5 gallon is plenty big enough. You can grow ten foot tall plant in a 5'er.

you should consider 15 gal buckets. the more root space you allow the larger the yield. we use twenty gal pots for our potted plants. that lets them yield like the in ground ones.

It really comes down to how much exposure your site can handle. It's a personal choice, but obviously, the bigger the container...the bigger the plant.... up to a point.
