Plant problems from a noobie!

Hey guys, this is my first post on your forums, but I've been reading through and seeing a lot of legit information being passed around, so I figured this would be a great of place as any to try and ask some questions.

I just received my green card a few days ago and bought some plants from a local (excellent) club, but I seem to be having some issues with my plants.

There's a range of things going on here, some of which I've kinda figured out, but others have me scratching my head. Yesterday, I transplanted this one from a plastic cup that the club had it growing it into a 6.8 quart pot.

6 Hours later I noticed the smaller fresh growth leaves were curling in (which I read was a water deficiency, so I soaked the pot and the leaves seem to be recovering this morning. )

Also, around the same time I noticed some very faint white spots on the leaves of the lower branches.

This morning when I went in to check on them, I noticed that the spots are on more leaves, but also on one of the higher leaves there is a shiny resin-like substance. You can't see it in the picture, but in the center of the leaf's stem, there was a chunk of the white substance. It was hard and glue-like but it crumbled under my fingers pressure after I pulled it off.

I'm still new to the growing process and at first I thought maybe it was crystallized THC, but I only yesterday started the 12/12 light cycle and it seems way early for that.

Any ideas? :wall:

Herm.... I def took the picture of the leaf missing some chunks out of it, but I went out and just inspected it for web-like structures underneath the leaves and wasn't able to find anything. I'll make a double inspection.

pic 3 looks like a spider mite web but the leaves look to have thrip damage here is a thrip i got a pic with my 60x in front of my cam and a leaf with thrip damage on it.let me know if its mites or thrips or both and i'll tell you what kills them and where to get the best price.but for now if you have lady bugs around gather them up and let them go in your grow room

if you can't find any webs look for tiny white dots moving a little bit or eggs under the leaf.i catch them in my run off water thats how i found out what i had.

take care of your bugs first, but be a little careful using leaves to measure if you need more water. an overwatered plant will have the leaves curl down while on an underwatered plant the leaves will wilt limply, eventually all the way through the stem in severe cases. the most foolproof way to measure moisture is to test the soil a couple of inches down. you can use your finger or buy a $10 moisture meter so you're not trying to read something into the leaves until you have a little more experience. more plants are killed by overwatering than just about anything else.

What would the eggs look like? I inspected all of them as carefully as I could and the only thing I saw were little tiny brown stick looking things, but I have a heavy duty fan going on them, so I just think it's mulch particles.

Well shiz, let's just say the thrip what is causing the white spots, what's the most natural way of killing them? Lady bugs really the way to go? I kinda feel weird about letting them loose in my grow room.. call me funny.. but I don't want to squish them when I'm working around haha. It's a small space.

A moisture meter sounds GREAT. Will definitely add it to my next home depot list lol :]. Thanks.

i think its mites and they will get a lot worse in a few days home depot sells hot shot pest strips for $6 they help but you really need a strong chemical made to kill them like floramite for mites or spinosad for thrips but lady bugs eat them both so if you have some do that asap..look under the leaf were the stem meets you will see white dots very very small

i got a moisture meter when i first started but i never use it just lift the bucket and you can tell if its dry or not i got the cheepest ppm meter and ph meter off ebay they were like $15 each and they both work great and make life a lot easier.

what nutes you using to flower? in a week or 2 the lower leaves may start to turn yellow you may need to add a little n2

Yeah gt my clones fo t stores tooantyalways have bugs. What Im doing to treat this is first I knock out the living with Organicide which all my cloneshave loved since a main ingredient is edible fish oil which is nitrogen. I treat my clones with this 3 times 4 days apart. Now your not done and this is important cause if not thy will be back about 25-30 days into flower and then youd be screwed go pick up some azamax and treat as directed 3 4 days apart but use this when they are a little more established and be sure to treat your soil cause they breed there. Hope it helped bro that knowledge would have helped me.

Vigoro all purpose fertilizer. Comes in a liquid solution but has a 10/10/10 mix. Saw some 10/30/10 home depot for flowering plants; thinking about picking it up.

look at the black dots?that looks like thrip poop but you need to look at it with a microscope. i would feel better if you see one moving and can see if its oval or round.

Thrips it is then? Will lady bugs still take them out?

I also read something about a vegetable oil called "neem oil" that's used as an insect repellent and insecticide. Anyone have any experience with it?

Home Depot stopped selling lady bugs in our area, in store D:. I picked up some organic pesticide for fungus/mold and insect killer that says will work on thrips. The company boasts that you can spray it the day you harvest and everything will be hunkydori... so we'll see what happens I guess.
