Clones: Wilting

Hi all, I'm trying something new with the clones and I don't think it's working.

I used to have them under a dome, and had a few flourescent lights over them.. it worked okay, wanted to try something different.

They were cut about 48 hours ago, and a few of them are starting to wilt. Here's what I'm doing: 1000whps bulb, cooled room, light is about 3-4ft away from the clones on 24x7

most of them are looking great, but as I said about 30% of them are starting to wilt and it's truthfully annoying the hell out of me

What's the most ideal cloning situation, or how can I improve my own?

Keep the environment humid as sh*t! This will allow the shoot system (and the soil) to not lose so much water to the environment. Your clones will root a lot quicker and more effectively. And should "stand" better as well.

I'm definitely trying to keep the humidity up, I'm wondering if it's worth while to create domes for them?

i'd take those HID lights off and put em back under the flouros. the HID's could be too much for them right now...

how big are the clones ur taking? usually i try to take a clone wit like at least 4inches of stem i can put into the soil and i dont use no dome and ive had good results

They're generally 3-4 nodes tall, they're in the soil right now. I've been reading around, and apparently turning the light off is a decent idea. I'm going to leave them off for a few hours each day and see how that goes. Additionally, misting 3-4 times a day, keeping the soil wet, etc.. I might have to switch back to floros, but I'll let you know for sure.

also wat kind of soil ur using? i use a seedling starter/germinating mix wit no ferts in it

Yea I'm pretty sure most people have some sort of dome over top, in order to keep the environment humid.

Ok, here's what is the most likely cause of what is happening. Your clones are still developing root systems, so their ability to uptake water is still limited. The 1000w HID is causing some of them to evaporate water through their leaves faster then their roots can replace it. Since a plants rigidity is totally the result of internal water pressure (no bones) the end result is droopy, wilting clones. Move them back under the flourescent light until the roots can develop fully and the problem is solved.

just a tip for next time, and this made my clones perfect every time. whatever your medium is your stickin them in like jiffy cubes or watever u use, make sure that when u stick them in it the cut end of the stem is actually touching the bottom of the cube on the inside. if that vulnerable area gets dry because its "suspended" in there they start to have problems like wilting.

Listen to these guys! Too much light. You are steaming your cuttings, not rooting them. Dont just turn the 1000 watter off for a few hours. It is still hotter than hell when you turn it on.
