Soil growing

I don't know where to start. What brand of soil, what nutrients would you recommend?

If i go the route of using worm castings, bat guano, etc would I even need fertilizers or other nutrients of any kind?

I'm so confused.

I know, it's all confusing but ya gotta find your own way. It's confusing cos people have different methods and there is no definitive route to take. I use a mixture of regular £1.99 multi-purpose compost, perlite and virmiculite and I am currently using MG nutes for veg. I'm having great results so far and am about 2 weeks from starting flowering. Do the best you can with what you have!

I would suggest looking through soem grow journals until you find an end product you like, then work backwards and see what they did. I use organic MG soil and fox farms nutes. You have to be careful with MG soil though its easy to over do it.

cheapest mix would be MG potting mix, perlite, and gardenlime, with liquid nutes. You can check out subcools mix,on here. Not as cheap as the MG mix,but should get great results.

I'm thinking of using the MG organic soil, with Fox Farm liquid nutes (i've heard it's good a while ago). Which Fox Farm liquid nutes are you using? I can't walk into the garden store and tell them my story lol.

I have found that using highly nutritive soils like fox farm makes it difficult to properly add supplemental ferts. Many people have succes going that route and I have as well. However, I recently switched over to non nutritive soil mixes, I make my own. I get a 3.8 cubic foot bag of organic peat moss for ten bucks and a big bag of perlite for like ten bucks and mix it up. I may try adding vermiculite to the mix as well in the future. I like my new mix and I believe it will be easier to dial in my feeding schedules. Good luck and let us know what you choose and how it works for you.

I use MG nutes but I wouldn't use MG soil, it releases nutrients at a diff rate than what MJ needs plus over-watering becomes a problem. You sound like you don't wanna make things too difficult, I say use compost, perlite n virmiculite n search for some nutes that appeal to you and have been known to work - easy peasy.

Exactly, I want to keep it simple, it's my first grow. I'm thinnking of using General Organics: Bio Grow and Bio Bloom.

Take a look at the pics, would those be correct for vegging and flowering?

If that's what you wanna use then go for it, although check that they can work as I have only used MG. When you do buy nutes start it off at 1/4 strength and increase each week. Atm, I'm using 1/4 strength MG and everything is going fine - will go to 1/2 next week and so on.

Don't think too much on it as most nutes will work, get something with high N for veg and high high p for flower. You will only need to start using nutes come week 2/3. before that the plant with use all the goodness of plain ol' soil + water.

fox farms ocean forest is great soil! Their nutes are great too! (I like their liquid trio: grow big, tiger bloom, and big bloom) I mean they are kinda pricey, but its nothing but the best for my babies!

I hear all the time that mg sucks, though I've never used it personally.

I already decided not to use Miracle Grow, definitely not, I've heard bad things about it too.

I'm thinking general organics or fox farms nutes.

oh ya if you wanna go straight up organic I'm sure general organics would be great! You probably no that ff grow big and tiger bloom are not organic. Big bloom is 100% though, and I've heard of folks using it as their sole bloom nutrients with great results.

Still though if I was going organic I'd get some lama manure, sheep manure, and chicken manure; If I'm not mistaken you can make a nice veg nute tea with the chicken and sheep and a flower tea with lama and sheep (I might have these jumbled a bit, my memory's kinda fuzzy). This stuff together with some Big Bloom, which is chock-full of bat guano and worm castings, and of course some ffof soil, would make for some great organic growing!
