Flushing question

Im somewhat confused about flushing. From what I understand it needs to be done if you use too many nutes. Using plain water, about 3 times the capacity of your pot. However, wont this simply water log your pot and result in over watering? Is it that this is the lesser of two evils when compared to too many nutes?

you over water by watering to often to soon not all at once . the plant is only gunna hold so much the rest runs off. so it will only hold as much as you would normal water. if you did this everyday then its over watering.

No because once flooding the plant, let it exceed about 20 percent drainage or so, the nutes are broken down easier when flooded. Then no water for a few days to dry the soil out. As far as what ive seen and been told thats how its done. The explanation can be found in any basic biology book

you don't flush all the time you just water as much as you can every few days he means
