The First Synthesized Man-Made Self Replicating Life

Certainly heard of it! It provides hope for amazing possibilities in the future. The environmental aspect causes some concern though. One idea is to release synthetic bacteria to reverse the ill effects of CO2 in the atmosphere, which seems wise, but could carry all the risks of introducing any alien organism into the environment of naive life.

So far the positives far outshine the chance of negatives. This might one day improve many lives and is a true breakthrough for science.

To a degree, we always were, it's mimesis, GOD exists in OUR world of inspiration and ideas. When people are interested in life, divine creators are a hero, a target of which to pursue in the career of, creation is just an upcoming stage of knowledge after survival, discovery etc.

It's upsetting that this news gained the amount of media coverage it did, such a step deserves far more. When a media-dubbed 'scientist' reports research which the general public doesn't entirely approve of, or see the point in, it's just as newsworthy. Cheers for posting this Padawan

to me, this is scary-
the potential for abuse by the power hungry is too great

and i think as a race we have a hard enough time managing our own universe, let alone creating a new one
