24hr or 36hr Dark Period

I just hooked up my new 1000w Ballast, with an HPS bulb.
The lights are off right now to switch to 12/12

Should i give them a 24hr or 36 hr dark period?

and will it effect my yield giving it a dark period like that?

No dark period for me.... I went to 12 hours of Dark to 12 light right away....

i personally let mine sit in the dark 4 24hrs...they turned out just fine...i was going to try 48-36 hrs but im not a patient person and couldnt stand not being able to see how they are doing or if they are in trouble etc.

when i turned the lights on the next day they looked perfectly fine though.

it really doesnt matter if you give them a period of darkness after veg or not...the grow i have going now i didnt give any darkness just switched to 12/12 (i couldnt because i have some flowering plants that are near the end of the flowering stage so if i gave my vegging plants darkness before 12/12 the flowering plants near completion would have to be in the dark too.

i didnt notice too much of a difference between either method...maybe next time i'll try 36 hr darkness to really see if there is one. hope this helps.

They WILL show sex much faster if you give them an extended period of darkness before changing to 12/12...this is a fact. Some people dont bother for whatever reasons, but Id say give them 48hours, you will have pistils by then.

I switched my bulb in the middle of the day and switched to 12/12 right away. My buds were never stressed out. No long dark period as the sun doesn't do this. This is day 34 of 12/12.
