Depending on the wind, we can smell the oil on certain days...

Most humans will forever disgust me, but over the past few weeks here in Louisiana... I have met some really GREAT people helping out on this spill, gives me some hope.

yea great idea, lets set off a nuke.....brilliant!

as for pressure, i think they saaid 20,000 pounds per square inch of sea and the oil is coming out at 70,000 psi. as it explodes out of the rig it certainly is under a lot more pressure than the ocean.

now all you engineers can get your calculators out and tell bp how to fix it......
i am sure with the multiple billions they make, they can come up with some engineering miracles. you work for bp or something?

it's a T sleeve. one end is left open to allow the oil to flow freely while the clamp is being attached and tightened. the blue ring is a clamp. the sleeve is slid over the pipe and the blue ring is tightened. there is a yellow hose T'ed off of the sleeve. once the sleeve is secured the green valve is closed and the oil is siphoned off thru the yellow hose.

hope this makes sense, ........ oil spill fix.jpg

i'm now open for questions, ...........................

i think thats similar to what there gonna try next. only thing is tho they have to cut the pipe further down past the kinks in it to get a clean seal. so if that measure doesnt work then there will be an even higher amount of oil spewing out

does anyone know how big they think this well is?

apparently not. if they could they would. they arent making any money watching the oil come out into the ocean. they would have plugged it in a half hour if they could of and started filling tankers up instead of the gulf. unless you are suggesting a giant oil conspiracy aimed at replacing sea water with oil....yeesh, use your head.

off today and just readin a little. it is really sad thing that is happening but i think the overall affect will be short lived once the oil is stopped. you always have the 'al gores' of the world trying to scare everybody into hiding under their beds but that doomsday scenerio seldom if ever plays out.

the real blame should be on the goofballs who wont let oil companies drill in waters closer to shore. shallow water, less pressure, less cost for oil. until somebody invents something to take the place of oil, our freedom depends on it. imagine how your life will change when gas hits 5-7 bucks a gallon and heating oil goes through the roof. its not a pretty economic picture.

There's no avoiding oil becoming more and more scarce. As a planet we've already met, and passed, the peak of oil production. Don't believe that?...Why are the Saudis (they have the largest reserves in the world) drilling offshore now?

It's not gonna get better. Only worse.

actually, there is A LOT of oil left. we have simple gotten to all the easy stuff. the good stuff lies a mile below the surface of the ocean.

Who cares lets stop burning the decomposed remains of plants and animals from millennia ago, and move up to a level 1 civilization. I mean having not left the starting line left has got to ware on some of your spirits.

running my 2 stroke wide open at 50+ mph across the top of the water certainly has MY spirits soaring.

try it some time.

Hey you like that, I like splitting water into hydrogen fuel with sunlight, making ethanol from hemp seed, and rapidly decomposing my organic waste with a bacterial-furnace(fueled by hydrogen) into compost and starting it all again. ;)

when you split water, what happens to the water?

just turned my compost about an hour ago.

The water is turned into gaseous H2 and 02, obviously half the 02 than h2, then the o2 is separated and used to facilitate the oxidation. There are different ways to do it, some are with catalysts and others apply an electric current and the atoms are attracted to the electrodes, H=- and O=+. You can get 22.4 L of gas from 18mls of water, about 15L of H2 and 7.5 L of O2, based on Avagadro's constant.

so you destroy the water molecule?

Not destroy, just change. Every thing exists still, not that one could destroy anything(physically impossible, E=MC^2), its just easier to use as fuel. Plus when you burn hydrogen, what are the products: 2H2+O2---->2H2O. Beautiful if I don't say so myself.
