6' Carbon filter and Portable AC issue

I am putting together a new grow room and I was thinking about how I could control the room temperature and odor problem. My idea is to take a portable AC unit which needs a exhaust hose to the outside. They come with the kit so all you need to do is place in the window and your set. Since you need a similar size exhaust hose to run your carbon scrubber blower I was thinking about combining the 2. My idea is to basically make a junction box where the 2 hoses would meet and then connect to the 1 unit which is already placed in the window for the AC unit. This way I only have 1 hose going to the outside and it would not be so suspecious to the neighbors or anyone else.

If anyone has done this before and thinks this will actually work please let me know. Suggestions are greatly needed. I've never even needed a carbon filter set up before on my grows but I figure I would try one this time if this works out. I've used odor control with auto ozium sprayers and such and my grows were CFL up to this point. With the addition of my new 400 watt hps/mh I am going to step it up a notch this time. I have 2 plants going at the moment that are from killer erbs that should not have given me a seed but there is a god in heaven!!! Finding a seed in erb that's some of the best shit you've ever smoked is the equivalent of the gold miners rush in my opinion

If you combine 2 6" exhaust ducts into one, then you run the risk of stressing your AC and your inline fan as there's a limit to the volume of air that can be forced through the ducts without stressing equipment.

If you are purchasing an air conditioner I'd get a Ductless Split AC any day over a portable unit.

So that will work ok using your method? I just thought it would be less attention getting with only vent.

you do not want to run your system the way you describe because one hose a/c's take inside air and use half of it to cool the compressor and then send it out the exhaust - and that air will not have been treated by your carbon filter. you want to use either a two hose portable a/c or as said earlier a mini split a/c if your cooling needs are significant.

Get the dual hole window kit for the portable AC and run AC hose to 1 hole the exhaust to the other. Go check my profile I have some photos of the setup easy and works great!!

I went to look at the photos and its really hard to see the AC unit but it gives an idea, the window in the photo is covered by white/black 5mil plastic to stop light in or out so you cant see the window kit but you can see the carbon filter venting out. What I had to do was order 1. the dual hole window kit, 2.the grates that connect to the holes in window kit, 3.the hose connectors that snap onto the grates that the hose connects to. 4.Also I ordered 1 hose that I cut in half and ran the flex duct into. the total bill for the kit was around 70.00$ but it works great and best of all I take it with me when I move!

What about a radio shack fan for a comp, splice it so that it connects to wall. Get ductin connect to a window and other side to hps. Will that work?

No computer fans are not designed to move a lot of air also the back pressures and the humidity would render the fan literally useless. Use an inline fan or a duct fan they are designed for the purpose of moving large volumes of air that has moisture and heat associated with the environments experienced in a grow room.

Find out where your ac's air intake is. I thought with those dual hose ACs, both hoses were for exhausting out the heat from the room. There is usually an air intake somewhere. I'm in a similar situation, and its complicated. I have 2 air intakes on the back of the portable ac and 1 hose to vent the heat outside. I bought a carbon filter from lowes, its for pet odors and its about 18" by 34". When the plants start to stink, I plan on taking off the filters currently on the AC and replacing it with several layers of the carbon filter from lowes.

in a two hose a/c one hose is for incoming air to cool the compressor and the other hose is for the exhaust from the compressor. one closed loop. then air from the room is drawn in from grills on the unit and that air is cooled by the compressor and passed back out the front of the unit. second closed loop. btw, it is really important to use insulated ducting for the exhaust, not the crappy plastic stuff.

I have a single output AC unit air intake is taken from inside but I have assembled rooms with the dual hole AC;s and what I did was added a 3rd window kit to the dual unit I just used the extender for the dual window kit to slide the 3rd kit onto. I like the idea of replacing the filters to the AC that would be the best solution I believe, that way all vented air would pass thru a carbon filter. If you can check the cfm of the fan that is designed to pull or push air through the carbon filters you have, and hopefully it comes close to the AC's fans cfm output if it is within 50cfm it will work if not then triple the filters or find a filter that matches the AC's fans cfm's
