I think medals are a bonus and add a sense of accomplishment to the earnee, the same as a diploma (just a piece of paper). I only had two rows when i got out of the Navy but let me tell you; the work our entire crew had to put forth and sleepless nights was worth it. You've never experienced comradery unless you've served and i miss that like no other. Not only did the service instill some great core principles i was in dire need of, it provided me with a way out of a pretty rough situation i was in outta high school. Not to mention i was stationed in Hawaii, woot!!!
