Advice please on closet setup

Hi All,

I'm in the process of converting a closet/wardrobe into a grow room for up to 4/5 plants, with 2 chambers. One for mothers & clones and one for flowering.

I know its probably the most common question out there but im really struggling on what lights to use. I've seen & read plenty about fluorescents being perfect for the veggie room but im not sure what light to use for flowering. The obvious approach would be a nice 400w HPS but Im concerned about heat and the limited space.

Dimensions for veggie chamber is approx. 40cm depth x 110cm width x 100cm height.
Dimensions for flowering chamber is approx. 40cm depth x 110 width x 300cm height.

Is the flowering area too small for a 400w HPS??
Is the veggie area too small to raise 4/5 plants with 2x 2ft flourescents??

I plan on building my own hydroponics setup.
I will be using fans, carbon filter, fresh air intakes.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have drawn a plan which I can upload if necessary.

Thanks,

No but you will have to set up your ventilation properly.

No but you may want more than just 2 lights. 4 minimum 8 ideal

Please do.

Alright guys, here's the plan i drew (sorry for the shyte drawing)

I hope its self-explanitory.

I measured up the space and the dimensions I mentioned earlier were slightly off.

What do you think??

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

they make 150 watt hps's too maybe that can fit your room size better..I'm not sure if a 150 will take care of that many plants, depending on how many you want flowering at once.

I would move the ballest completely outside your grow area, they get really hot.

Intake should be at the bottom and exahust at the top. You are going to need an inline fan, again I would mount outside the grow room. YOU MUSAT RUN AN AIR COOLD HOOD. 38 CM deep is tight but I think you can do it will alot of pre planning.

here is what one similar to what you are talking about looks like.

Second pic is what a 400w HPS creates. (just to inspire you alittle more)

Oh and a ventelation chart for your reference. (remember everything you put in your grow room generates heat)

Oh wow. Thanks for the 2nd pic. My mouth is watering...

Intake at the bottom noted, thanks!

I'm really starting to doubt the HPS coz of the heat issues. I live in the med where it gets seriously hot in summer and I think i'll have enough trouble with heat, let alone in such a small space powered with a HPS.

What about a few CFL's & 2ft Flourescents, running vertically and horizontally?? Possibly a better option for me??

This will be my first grow, so the easier the better until i get the hang of things.

I have plans to build a hidden room in my garage in the future, and then i'll have a lot more space and options for proper ventilation.

If you dish out the money you could just get some higher CFM fans to cool the room. But if you went with CFLs you'd be good with the heat issue. Maybe need 1-2 just reg fans to move the air around but you don't have the heat issue like you do with HPS.

Does your house have central A/C? i run an HPS in a very small space along with 8 - 2' T5 HO's. I struggled with the heat at first, but adding an air cooled hood and an inline fan solved the problem.

No central A/C i'm afraid, and neither does the room with the closet in it.

I'll look into the air-cooled hoods.

Can you explain the intake and exhaust fan set up again?

Intake
6'' ducting going from attic to the fan at the bottom of room

Exhaust
Fan mounted in attic with 6'' ducting going to carbon filter

Could i combine the carbon filter exhaust to the light? and therefore sucking the smelly air thru the light and cooling it at the same time.

Does that make sense or have I got it completely wrong??

Cheers for all the help BTW
