Sad to say that I only got 4 holes done on Sat. When I returned at lunch the guy had broken 2 sprinkler lines and had repaired them taking a lot of digging time. Another problem is my native soil is clay and in parts it is very hard so that slowed him down too. I need to figure out a better way to excavate these holes. Im going to get the wood for the raised box and a tarp for the soil mix so I can at least fill thos 4 holes.

Well the digging didnt go as well as I thought. On the first hole we hit 2 sprinkler lines which took longer than normal to fix. The end result was I only got 4 holes dug in 8 hours. I will attempt to continue this week to see how many more I can get done. I am going to buy some wood for the raised bed boxes.

Here is the outlay for the plan although I only got 12 boxes to fit (6 per side) in the space even though it is 20 x36 and plots out to 14 spots on the plan??? I havent figured it out yet. I planned it so I would have 4 x 4 boxes, 8 inches deep, with 3 feet on each side for branches or a total of 7 feet from the stalk. This will allow a little room for me to walk around the plants once the enclosure is up. here are the holes, sprinkler and some of the soil ingredients.

oh crap those damn sprinkler lines are right in the way. How about rerouting them and be done with 'em?

those beds are going to rock & roll when you fill them up. keep us updated bro, later

I will post pics tonight. Went out today and we have 2 more femenistas. I will post a list tomorrow or tonight. I had to send one BCK male to the back 40 since he is prematurely releasing his loads and is nothing special. Watered yesterday and put the CI x BB in a bigger pot since it had escaped the 1 gal pot into the 20 gal 2009 grow medium it was sitting on top of.

Also since my ground is too hard I rented a Electric jack hammer with a "clay spade" to deal with that hard as clay dirt in my back yard. I have also begun watering the area to soften it up a little.

I was a little down about my C99 seed popping experience so I got out my Delta Wave (C99 x BR). So far Im 3/4 already out of the soil. ALso popped 3 more JBs bec I dont have a female yet only Purple Boy. Stay tuned

Your almost there, when we were digging for the pool we hit sprinkler and leech lines, talk about a bad day...lol

Yea I can see the leach line being a bummer. Hope things go smoothly with the power digger.

Once I count the girls tomorrow I will come up with a almost final list for the 2010 grow. I still have seeds coming up as I didnt get females for some strains and I havent sexed about 11 which should be ready in about a week or 2. I will be selecting the males to donate pollen (live a little while longer or mother) tomorrow or friday. Once all the girls are out I will select the phenos I want to keep.

I will buy the wood for the raised beds this week and will be making soil next week. I want plants in the ground before the 4th.

THe CI x BB has hugh leaves and stalk. Its going to be a monster. I have several strains with the BR that are exhibiting purpleness on the stalk and branches especially the Purple Jack (male). I tried to get a few pics of the BA and BK with the purple stems. Also caught some juvy ladybugs on the plants along with a worm and a moth. Time to get out the Spinosad.

Row 1: Group photo with girls towards the camera and boys on the other side of the 20 gal pot, BA purple stem, baby lady bug on BCK, CI x BB leaf and stem (stem is as big as my middle finger.
Row 2: Mostly BKs and 1 BA, BK purple stem, C99 Ult Chem and LA Conf x ECSD, Purple Jacks nuts, another baby thrip/mite eater

Thought I would post what I am going to use this year for my soil mix. It is similar to what I used last year for my soil and is a slight modification to Subcool's Supersoil. This year I will need to do the same layering method as I did last year in the pots but I will just do it in the raised beds. So I will have soil layer A on the top 8-10 inches followed by a mix of soil layers A + C, and followed lastly by soil layer C. The recipe here is what I used for the 12- 20-gal pots I used last year. I had a little left over with this recipe but my calculation is for the new area.

I also had planned to use what I have in the pots as a base compost/potting soil and just add the amendments and additional fresh compost and potting soil.

If I plant a plant every 9 linear feet and separate them 10 feet on center laterally then, each grow area for each plant will be approximately 80 cu ft. So what I am going to do is create a 4 x 4 ft square where the plant will be in the center and have 2 ft total depth of the A/B/C soil layers. This will come out to 32 cu ft per plant or I will need about 448 cu ft of total soil layers above the native substrate. I think I will attempt to do some drawings next week when I go back to work. Here are the goodies for the soil mix:

Soil Layer C (all quantities will be multiplied to fill a 4 x 4 square 1 ft deep for 14 plants)

15 cuft (9 cuft G&B Compost, 3.8 cuft Promix, 2 cuft G&B Potting soil)
40 lbs pure worm castings
5 lbs blood meal
5 lbs bone meal
5 lbs bloom bat guano
1 c sweet lime (dolomite)
3/4 c Epsom salt
1/2 c azomite (trace elements)
1/2 c powdered humic acid
50 lbs chicken manure
2 c kelp meal
perlite

The upper soil layer is as follows:

Soil Layer A (all quantities will be multiplied to fill a 4 x 4 square 1 ft deep for 14 plants)

16 cuft (6 cuft G&B Compost, 3.8 cuft Promix, 6 cuft G&B Potting soil)
40 lbs pure worm castings
2 c kelp meal
1/2 c powdered humic acid
1/2 c azomite (trace elements)
perlite

Soil Layer B is a mix of A + B

Damn!! That’s a lot of soil. About 32 cu ft per plant or a total of 448 cuft or 16 cuyrds.

So once I excavate the 6-8 inches of clayey soil, I will add some amendments like gypsum to breakup the clay. I’m not trying to do anything with the native clay layer. About 12 inches of soil layer C goes on top of the native soil followed by 4 inches of a mix of soil layers A+C, followed by 8 inches of layer A for a total of 2 ft of soil above the native clay layer.

OK I need to work on some drawings.

Well I went and got the jack hammer with a clay spade and tore it up today. De holes is done! I need to build the boxes now and make soil but I think that is the easy part. I took off thurs and fri this coming week so I will be busy building. Im hoping one of my buddies can come and help me with the soil and boxes.

I popped 5/5 delta wave seeds and 1/3 JB. I need a fem JB for Purple Jack damnit! Got to select females for the holes so I will be looking at them carefully to select keeper females. I dont have enough raised beds for all that I have so I will put some in the pots from last year. Lots to do.

So, where ya putting the pool? lol Things are coming along just have to take it one day at a time. Your line up is making my mouth water, can't wait to read the smoke reports..

Thx Hodge. I cant wait either. I will do like I did last year and get testers to evaluate each strain. Definately funner that way. Only problem is when my testers forget what they smoked (too stoned) and cant comment on the strain smoke report. I am going to use that to describe the potency: "makes you so stoned you forget what your doing," lol.

Im thinking about a pond in the back corner. Yea I plan to do this like I did last year. Slow and steady. I just finished calculating my wood order for next week. I am going with a 2 x 6 and a 2 x 12 for the side. That will give me 2 feet total depth with 4 x 4 feet (l x w) or 32 cuft (just over 1 cuyd) each box. I think I will need more compost and amendments. I will make the hot stuff first for the bottom 1 foot. Then I will make the top layer. If you look back a few posts it has it all there. I was going to start today but I am tired after watering all my orchids.

Today was the first day for about 1 week that the sun came out before noon or at all. It has been really June gloom to the max. I fertilized and watered today and the girls are all looking healthy. I uped the ferts to 1 tsp (750 ppm) last Wed and the plants seem to like it. I think the CI x BB needs more but I will wait until the transplant before I see what they need. I pulled the C99 out of the small pot and put her in a bigger pot intil transplant into the raised beds.

There are 2 girls which are purple honeys the BK and the BA. I have included pics of both and Purple Jack. The new JB (2) and Delta Wave [DW] (5) are doing fine. I will probably start soil production tomorrow (see recipe a few posts back). My friend said he was going to help me out so it should go faster than with just me alone. Also going to get the wood (16-2 x 12 x 12 and 16-2 x 6 x 12 and a few 4 x 4 x 12) as long as he is here to help. Going to be a busy week ahead. Stay tuned.

Row 1: Boys on far side of 20-gal pot Girls on near side and in 20 gal pot, C 99, purple BA, CI x BB, Purple JB
Row 2: Purple JB, bug (anyone know what it is?), BK girls (3), purple BK, holes for raised beds
Row 3: raised bed hole close up (they are about 6-8 inches deep x 4 x 4)

My friend came over and helped me but he had the starting of a cold so he wasnt 100%. After my friend arrived I decided to go get the wood I needed for the raised beds. The 2 x 12 12s were at about eye level so we had to check them and then lift them down. Once I had 16 we loaded them in the truck. Then we loaded the 2 x 6 x 12s and 4 x 4 x 8s onto the dolly and into the truck. Those 2 x 12 x 12 were heavy for me. We carried either 2 2 x6 x 12s or 2 4 x 4 x 12s to the back. We could only carry one 2 x 12 x 12 at a time.

Yesterday was a big day for starting the soil mixing. I bought a 20 x 30 ft tarp and used a section about 10 x 15 (tarp folded in half). Once we were done with the wood and a short Monster break we made one pile of soil (21 cuft). We started making the soil and I realized I didnt have any rock phosphate. I went to 2 places and couldnt find what I wanted so I just mixed it without the phosphate and will add it to the holes on Sat when I pick up supplies. I may have to mix in some of the excavated dirt or this will cost a fortune to refill the holes and raised beds. I was a little tired today so I thought out what I need to do this weekend to get some more materials and to build the wood part to the beds.

Watered the plants today. I cant wait to get them in the raised beds. Some pics tomorrow
