Looking for some advice or tips from people who know this stuff, these are 600w cooltubes I'm trying to decide how to setup for cooling/light efficiency reasons...I'm using a 340cfm fan in a 800 cubic foot room...

so what do you think will be better? pic attached...

Your original will cool better.. Less bends equal less restricted airflow to cool. Every bend decreases the efficency of your fan. Depending on the angle of the bend, you can lose 50% of your fan!! Also, don't forget that when you add a carbon filter, your fan won't actually be doing that many cfm's. So make sure you plan for it. I run 3 600watt HPS bulbs in a 4x8 ft tent. I run a n 8" Vortex fan and at full blast (walls of the tent sucked in and all) I can just keep it under 80 degrees with the AC running in the room that the tent is in.. My fan can clear all the air in my tent in around a minute so it is way oversized and I still run it full blast to keep the heat down.. I am also in S. California where it is 85 degrees plus everyday....

SLB - ah that would definitely be better, but im not sure if they would fit in the space i have...well see..

bulldog- yeah the original will probably cool atleast 50% better because only 1 bend...but im wondering if more lumens would hit the plants the other way...seems like the bulb would give off more lumens horizontally and maybe send extra light to set of 6 plants next to it...

I think if you do it with the lights hanging, you will need to oversize your fan up to around 900CFM's minimum to keep them under 80 degrees.. plus you are going to have more heat in your tent to deal with as your heat isn't all up top anymore.. I think you are going to have a very difficult time cooling with the second design...

Yeah, that doesn't look like it'll fit...nonetheless, the original idea seems better...

IMO you should go with the second option. The first option is going to be pulling hot air from the first light to cool the second and the third is going to see air that was heated by the first two lights. It's not a very efficient way to cool the lights.

With the second option, install slidegates between the main line and each light. By a handheld anemometer to measure wind speed at the open end of each line. Using the anemometer to measure the aiflow, adjust the slidegates to balance the flow so they are all getting the same amount of air.

I added to your picture.

Nice way to equally distribute airflow between the 3 lights! Very simple, yet effective!
