My GrowRoom - Any tips?

Hello!!!! :peace:

This is my grow room . Behind the plast thingy is my bed so yes its HOT and NOISY!!
But not too hot for the plants!
But I have managed to keep the light onto the bed to the minimum :-P

What do you think of my grow room? Does it need anything?
The light is a 400 W HPS and the fan is a regular fan just to circulate the air and trim the stems.

From the plastic and rest of the remaning area (not including the bed behind the plastic) the room is about 9 m2.

I'll be glad for any response on how the room is as Im a first time grower :!:

First off, wrap those containers in black plastic, stop roots being exposed to light as it will hinder growth, Also White plastic or mylar surrounding the grow will help, you increase light efficiency by 10% having good reflection.

Do Your containers have drainage ?
What is your soil made up of ?
What nutrients are You using?
How are u getting fresh air in and stale air out ?

If you could answer these questions for me it would be a help, i see a lot of potential :bigjoint:

Hello! Yes, they have drainage, holes in the bottom and perlite stones. The soil is made of 20% sand, the rest is organic flower soil. We use organic fertz that have all t it need. And we have biobloom and ph reduction. Behind the plastic curtain theres a HUGE window and a airduct. The fan circulates 24/7..... We do something with the containers straight away! Thank 4 taking the time letting us know some of the "secrets", lol

Some em are still not sexed. Im sure the number of plants will decrease...... Pretty sure that on of em are male. But can I use aleminiumfoil on the closets to the right in the pic.....would that help????

No, alluminum foil will crinkle and reflect light poorly - use it only if you have to.

Mylar can be found in the forms of :

Space blanket from your local camping supply store (dirt cheap)
Sun visors that ppl put on their windscreens to stop heat building up as much in their cars when parked
flooring underlay from your diy store should have a shiny layer on it (certain types , i use floor underlay as its easier to work with than mylar sheets)

Also white plastic sheeting or white paint you can find very cheaply and easily. The world is your oyster really you can find everything you need so very cheaply if you just look closely.

Also theexpress is right i would find a reflector that covers a larger area of plants.

Hope all this helps, glad to see you're growing organically in nice soil, just be careful if its storebought sometimes you need to make adjustments to the nutrient levels so that its correct for cannabis.

I got yellow room as u can see. does that help just a little? better than black i hope..lol..
I'm afraid it has to be white my friend , that black curtain is actually absorbing light by the way so you really need to replace it with something white or shiny soon as u can. keep it if you have to but would be best changing it.

Dont get too hung up on what we're telling you though, your plants will grow well without all the extra light but u wont even see half of their true potential until they get LOTS of light , you have 400w of light and that is certainly enough but you are losing a LOT of its power by not reflecting it everywhere.

Going into the "thinking box" now then. Gotta figure out the cheapest, most efficiant and smart way to go.lol. Thank u sooooo much!!

Get an aircooled reflector perhaps? The DIY cooltube (bakearound) is perfect to house a 400hps. Not near the hood as a Good quality $150 version, but will suffice. I used a cheap cpu fan to cool it.

You can buy a sheet of that siding insulation for cheap, and use the white side of it to make moveable walls. Styrofoam, its cheap, lighweight, and easy to find.

Supplement your lighting with some hanging cfl's. You want cheap. how about $1.50 per bulb, and about $1.50 for the socket? When you dont need em, put em in the house fixtures!

I hope smell IS NOT a concern of yours. If you ARE aware of how stinky they get, and its all good, kudos! However, dont get caught with a smell that travels across the street, before you try to fix it.

I use a fan/filter combo. Cost me a mint, but I use the fan to both cool the light, suck heat out of the room, and also keep the smell down to NIL. Unless its raining out, it also helps with humidity, mold, stagnant air and keeps the rest of the house smelling good. Yeah, I went a tad big on the fan and filter. The damn fan/filter work perfectly, but at $300, it cost as much as my damn 1000w and hood.

Anyhow, looking good man. You have a good enough setup to get ya there. ONly problem: if you get the gardening disease, you've just enough setup to get you started spending ALL you time and money. Best of luck to you!!

a picture of how cool the tube runs w/a 400hps and a small cpu fan pulling thru. Also a nug that was flowered under a 400hps.. Since I caught the disease however, I use a 1000w to flower.

Looks good, already some great suggestions. I didn't see anything about a thermometer/hygrometer in there, that has been one of the single things that have kept me from frying my plants,"keep the sensor at the top of the canopies if you can." Like someone above said you could probably get away without most this stuff but the little things will definitely help better your grow!! Good luck!

Good looking so far man. All I can say is putting mylar along your walls would only help, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to have some plastic or tarp on your wood floor in case of a spill, but that might just be me:)
good stuff, keep it growin

I agree, a thermometer is very nice. I have a wireless i found for less than $20. It has become invaluabe as I try to install more lights in my tiny cabinet. Since my main room has been stable for a year, I just use a cheap $2 in there.

Have you considered a simple ebb and flow ponics setup? I was scared of the difficulty of it, but after a few more dollars, my first crop was awesome and I'll never go back. No mess, no bugs!!!(those fukn nats are gone!!!) and no worrying about if they NEED water. Ive a really simple setup of LOWES and WALMART shit. cost me probably about $75 to make the setup with the baskets, tubs, pumps, hoses, timer, and other tiny bs. Nutrients not so cheap, but the results Ive found make it worth it by so much. Holler if you decide to go that way.bongsmilie
