will this work?

ive decided i want to use smart pots. for those of u not familar with them they are cloth pots that provide excellent aeration and air prune roots. what i wanted to do was line the bottom of each pot with 2-3 inches of hyfoton clay balls, then put promix hp on top now since the smart pots are cloth i thought they could act as a wick system. so what i would do is stick 6 5 gallon smart pots in a kiddie pool and then fill the kiddie pool with 1/4 strength botanicare nutes now iprobly would only fill the kiddie pool 2-3 inches and let the pots soak it up. another thing i was thinking was to top feed the pots untill i had 2-3 inches of run off let the run off get soaked back up then repeat letting the pool sit dry for a day between waterings does anybody see a problem with this plan if so i am open to critizimze. it would be cool to get some advice from my fellow growers thanks!

yea that would work, plants will grow in just about everything. But personally i wouldnt go with that. Those work great if transplanting is a issue.
But if you a doing a standard grow with 3-5 week veg and 8-10 week flower i dont see why this would be necessary. It would just seem like more work than regular pots.

i like the smart pot with the air root pruning and the aeration i also like the passive wick system less watering maintence also with the kiddie pool u can rotate the plants just by spinning the pool around or sliding it side to side i was worried about the smart pots not drawing water up the medium as effectivly as a nylon rope or maybe it would make the medium to soggy im not sure another things that looms in the back of my mind is will the kiddie pool resovior and to the humidity of the room drasticlly and if it does then i dont want to do it but then again it might just even the humidity out perfectly since im in a dry region . thanks for the reply frenetic420 its hard to get replys somtimes if you wanna drop any more knowalge on me much appreciated

hahaa i think its because you only have 12 posts lol. people associate knowledge with post sometimes. sounds like you know what your doing though.

If you new to growing or maybe if this is one of your first grows i would try something different. I like how you think though, it sounds like a good idea. But remember you want to keep things simple and use proven methods.
Im sure your idea will work but it might be a lot of extra work.

What if your plants dont soak up all the water and there sitting in a pool of muddy water, then you have to drain it or it will get to soggy and get root rot. Also it might attract pests.

Lots of growers start out fine and do all the maintenance but then they get lazy and sometimes skip things and the plants suffer.
Watering can be a lot of work if you have to fill the kiddy pool each time then drain all the excess water. Not to mention it can be really messy and trash your house
And if you dont have any excess then the plants might not be getting all the water they require.

What your describing is similar to a hydro set up. why dont you use pots of floc (sugar cube size rockwool cubes) its very hard to over water and holds a ton of both moisture and oxygen and works very well with a flood and drain.

i would say im a pro at dwc but cant do it anymore with my current room situation ive tried soil in my first grow didnt like it so i wana keep the hydro method gowing but need to cut on electricity in any way possible so dwc is out. my budget is slim so i cant get spend to much on equipment. this way would only cost 35-40 bucks plus promix. i heard rock wool can be sensitive so ive always stayed away (maybe there is new rockwool out there i dont know about) im pretty dilligent when i got crop going i at least spend 30 min a day checking on things and maintaining so lazyness isnt a factor(somtimes i just go have a beer with my ladies if maintence is in check). since this is pretty much a newer spin on the wick system witch is a proven method i would defintly have to keep an eye on the moisture levels at first if i do decide to go through with this and if all fails just hand water. thanks youve given me somthen to think about. what do you know about hempy buckets it seems simple and cheap any downfalls?

What up? Your first idea would work, however I would rock coco because it it pretty hard to overwater. Your coco will soak up what it needs. I'm not much for haveing my media wet all of the time. I like for my media to dry out a bit in veg. Check out Supernatural Brand Nutrients. They have a nice wick system you might could get ideas from. Its called The Fearless Gardener.Peace,SS

Check out Supernaturals Pre filled grow bags. Ready to go with big claims. Never tryed them but there good to go with the fearless wick system. Hempys are cool if you have the right type of buckets. I would run something with an airstone in the bucket instead of hempy personally. Have you tryed coco in 2 or 3 gallon on a sea of green?

ive never heard of the prefills but it sounds expensive, if i could do airstones i would do dwc but cant cause of my electricity situation. but i am interested in the hempys what kind of buckets do you use. as for coco it is a little expensive as opposed to promix but if it is worth the extra $ i might consider the coco what do u think?

I like Roots Organics Coco in 2 gallons in sea of green. 2 weeks veg. Supernats bags are 10 bucks each. 2-3 gallon. There full of the best mediums. 1o bucks aint shit if you make your own cuttings. Also, Im not a fan of smart pots. I couldnt ever get a good flush when I wanted. The bottom is so thick it acts as a filter
