I run my lights at night to help keep my room cool, I told another grower this at my compassion club and he was floored.

"THATS AGAINST THE MOON AND THE CYCLE OF THE EARTH YOU SHOULD RUN WITH THE EARTH!" He shouted in disgust.

So my question for you RIU - Do you feel this is religous Mumboo jumbo from a life long farmers perspective or do you really notice a difference from running your lights in conjuction with this sun?

NOPE! I recently switched to running my 12 hours of light through the night.

It gives me a sense of safety over my plants, and keeps things at an ideal temperature.

But hey, to each their own, right?!

A sense of safety? How so? because your temps are safe?

I always run lights at night for 2 reasons. One mentioned here is heat. The other is expense. Lighting at night is "off peak" which saves you a heap of money on your electric bill.

but you notice your grow goes better if you run them in the day aside for those reasons? why did you pick yes?

Run em at night.

1) cooler temps to deal with
2) 5pm i get off work, check ppms and ph when the babies just wake up
3) look for lighting issues BEFORE they get burning hot
4) Be home if theres an outage or electric/fire issue
5)Sit and read by hps with my babies, they dont like me in there when they asleep.
Cant worry about the pull of the tides if you are simulating a grow environ for a damn weed! My yields keep getting better and better. It aint because of the moon, its simply put... Im learning to use the equipment I have to its potential. Is this same guy reading the tides for just the right moment to plant a seed too? Id shout back......"It's sold on the black market, it prefers to grow at night!!" or "Its daytime somewhere!!"

Hey deprave, heres my run down.

I ran my light at night for 3 reasons.. 1.Like others have already said "off peak of electricity being used." 2. Where im growing with a 400w, i need to run at night [ so mine own situation] and 3. perfect temps/handleing at the end of the day with a nice stone on looking at my babies. hehe :bigjoint:

And I didnt notice anything but the growth increase for my plant from 83watts of cfls to a 400w hps. :P

...are you guys serious about the peek times? I mean, I am charged per kilowatt hour no matter when I use the kilowatts. That must be determined by your location or something. I heard of cell phone peak times, but electric?

...anyhow, I run my lights at night, atm. I'm think'n of change'n that soon...I've been reading about infrared, it's hard for big brother to use infrared during the daylight hours.

I am running my lights during the day into the early evening. Simply because I sleep at night so I won't be able to work in my room if the lights are not on. I don't think it makes a difference really.

I run my lights at night in the summer. I do for only one reason the heat.

If I didn't run at night in the summer, I would need to cool my box with an extra air conditioner. Does not effect yield.

I might get 2 or 3 month of 100 degrees, the girls don't like it. The excess heat stunts the growth. :joint::peace:

Indoor growers provide the plant with everything it needs, including light cycles. No matter where the sun is, your plants are responding to the cycle you've provided for it.

the electricity company charges u less if u use your lights at night. this is because demand is high during the day(when everyones awake, using electricity). but at night, most are asleep, so they charge less at night per kwh in order to get people to try to buy electricity at night rather than the day

Not where I am from. I pay per kwh, it is a fixed unit price and the unit is stable fixed measure of kilowat per hour. ie 1000w per hour. So I think in your case this is true, but it won't be the same for everyone.
