Public's faith in Obama hits a new low

Are you sure that it's the democrats? I'm actually watching the news now. From what i understand, the democrats are trying to pass a bill to deal with that issue. Unemployment is running out and they're trying to pass a bill for it, but republicans are holding it up.

Actually, congress took a weeks vacation from 7/4 - 7/10, before voting on the bill. Now they are saying they want to replace the democrat congressman (who passed away recently) before voting. Which will all be futile since they are having yet another vacation, this time lasting the whole month of August. If they don't pass it before then.... people will be pissed. Maybe that will be the fuel for a revolution this country so desperately needs.

Pipe dreams I'm afraid.

It may ending up costing us even more in the short term if we yank the only lifeline that millions of Americans are counting on for survival. :weed:
most every economist agrees with you here. trying to reduce the deficit by cutting UI at a time of historic employment is, in their words (not mine, although i agree), INSANE.

I don't see Unemployment Insurance (UI) as welfare. It's insurance against being laid off. I realize that is a govt. subsidized and mandated insurance but it's one that I happen to agree with. I don't think it should be extended in perpetuity but it just seems assinine to extend, extend, extend, and now we have signs of the economy faltering again and we are gonna pull the plug? Why extend it in the first place if they are just gonna take it away before the jobs picture starts to improve? That seems like a waste of money to me.:-?

As we prepare for the November midterm elections, our glorious leader's popularity is slipping. Not the type of thing Obama and the dems need with the midterms looming so close. This could spell big trouble for the progressives.

Lawmakers in both parties are getting hammered as well. I honestly can't say that I'm all that surprised by this. What does everyone else think?

Americans are notoriously fucking stupid. After eight years of Bush & Cheney treating America as their personal piggy bank, and cutting huge deals to fill the pockets of all their friends, the economy tanks in a big way. Somehow the fucking morons, instead of placing blame on the party responsible for this disaster, are actually so dim witted that they eagerly lap up the re-pube-lickins newest line of shit. The very fact that a sleazy money grubbing whore like Palin can get away with calling herself a champion of the little guy illustrates the unadulterated pure stupidity flowing through the veins of the teabaggers.

Can't remember the guys name, but I love this quote because it is so true. " Whereas I must concede that not all conservatives are stupid people, I hold it to be equally true that most stupid people are conservatives."

Oh, by the way, anyone see any rich people who are actually hurting? I don't mean that they were forced to sell that extra benz, I mean unable to pay their mortgage, bills, etc.

Would you address the fact that the democrats passed PAYGO legislation - meaning they have to actually pay for the bills they right and then chose to ignore it. The dem's passed it. Now, if the Dem's want to spend part of the stimulus funds on unemployment the republicans would go along but the dems want to spend MORE money...

Look at it this way. Say you pay 2% of your paycheck toward unemployment insurance. And that while unemployed you get 50% of your paycheck. If you are unemployed for a year you will get 6 months worth of your regular pay. Based on the 2% you would have to work for 25 YEARS to equal the amount you paid into the system for just 1 years unemployment.

So, anybody who has been on unemployment for over a year is getting far more in benefits than they paid in.[/QUOTE

Sorry dude you are completely delusional if you think the re-pube-lickins are going to vote for anything while Obama is in office. They have finally showed their true colors. If it doesn't directly put cash in the pockets of rich and corporate America, the right wants nothing to do with it.

I was laid off last off a while back, not really because the company was suffering, but they decided to go in a new direction and hire hire dollar educated Idiot's, that knows nothing about the Industry and still have no clue what the hell there doing! In reality they are what is going to shut the door's of this perticular company!
I stayed on unemployment for 3 mos. Took a Hard Crappy job,,Would have been better off staying unemployed,,,but that get's boring after a while,,,ended nup quiting no more UI for me,,,FINE,,,Did Do what I have to do to get a job,,,DRIVE, In these time's you gotta do what you have to do to make money.
It tought me a lot being reliant on someone else for your well being, There are good way's to survive,,,sometimes you just have to scrafice what your used to in the end you might be pleasantly suprised to find out it's really not as bad as they say!

Rich people dont hurt, they just cut back on their employees... Look at the unemployment rate to see where they save money...

Yeah, while the democrats are busy bailing out the unions, the states, giving some brazilian oil company 2 billion for research which just happens to happen 2 days after George Soros buys 800 million dollars in stock in the company.

Seriously, the Republicans are amateurs compared to the democrats back door deals. The politics of the whitehouse come directly from the Chicago machine. I find your pointing at republicans to be laughable while Obama is racking up deficits of 10% of our GDP... The mantra "the republicans did it first" will not save America from financial ruin if the democrats do it on steroids...

I agree with all of this.

And of course the rich dont suffer; I actually read an article on CNN about luxery spending and they've apparently gone from buying jewelry/clothing/cars on a whim to only buying big screen TVs for their backyard IF IT'S ON SALE LOL and one story in the article even talked about how a rich guy bought a huge outdoor (Stone? cant remember) pizza oven for $6000+ and quoted him talking about how it's for his health and whatnot. BS lol he probably uses it like once a month tops.... I'm actually going to see if I can find this article again. It was a joke.

Its apparent some people still dont understand what caused the financial collapse in the first place

that one guy up thinks it was bush, cheney, and the republicans LOL

no, our financial system collapsed because people were playing it like a casino, giving value to things without value

trading with worthless nothings, and creating an artificial bubble which burst and sent the market screaming downward

but it must have been the republicans that did it all huh?

No, it was the Democrats and their push for lower income people to be able to buy homes they could not afford.

It was a giant social experiment. Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae were FORCED by legislation to give out a certain number of low income home loans. To do this the congress had to regulate lower standards for verification of income etc.

Once that happened, EVERYBODY jumped in. And everybody seemed to think the house prices would go up forever. And then POP!!

But hey, have ya noticed that Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae who have lost the taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars never had to go before congress? And did ya notice that congress quietly gave them an unlimited get out of debt free card that they still keep taking from? And did ya notice that somehow in all this confusion Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae got COMPLETELY left out of the new financial regulatory legislation?

Wow, that is really a HUGE amount of coincidences huh?

hmmmm, something is rotten in denmark. this is the same incredibly oversimplified standard republican talking point explanation. quite frankly, it is the most pathetic festering pile of shit argument in the history of mankind.

the democrats FORCED low income people to buy homes?

they must have done that with their president George W Bush and the congress controlled by conservatives until 2006.

also, they must have forced bush into bragging about his 'ownership society' and record home ownership rates in nearly every state of the union speech.

barney frank was the man behind the curtain singlehandedly controlling the entire executive and legislative branches.

certainly, this collapse had NOTHING whatsoever to do with an unregulated derivatives market or despicable practices by companies like AIG and goldman sachs. just ignore all that. it was all the fault of barney frank and the democrats.

little known fact: democrats pointed guns at poor people, sometimes holding their children hostage, until they bought a house they could not afford. that is clearly what happened.

you sir, have just proven to me beyond the shadow of a doubt that you are nothing moire than a parrot who apes what he hears on fox news, which is, by your own admission, your only source.

pure, 100%, unadulterated FAIL.

I think the lesson here is that neither party gives a shit about the people. Republicans will obviously lay blame on the democrats, and perhaps rightfully so since they are the party in power. Democrats are still blaming Bush, and perhaps rightfully so since the Bush administration was in power for the previous 8 years. What I don't see is anybody owning responsibility for anything and apologizing to the American people and saying "We are going to get through this and make things right". Obama doesn't inspire confidence in very many folks these days and it speaks to the greater problem...........our politicians are acting like a bunch of drunken frat boys on spring break! They don't care what kind of damage they leave in their wake. They are only concerned with protecting their own liveliehoods and helping out their corporate cronies. The system is broken and only WE THE PEOPLE can fix this problem. We have one great power left and that's the power to vote. Get out there and vote out the incumbents. If nothing else, perhaps it will send a message to the powers that be that the people are fed up and not going to take it anymore! :cuss:

The one person I feel bed for is George Bush, he was a straight C studnet through college and he tried to shoot for the stars by running for prez, he probably didnt expect to get elected..... but the dumbass people in our country saw one of their own (an average student that is) and jumped at the chance to vote him in. Poor GWB was so in over his head, I feel really bad for him he shoulda just stayed in texas and watched rangers games as his checking account grew with the oil companies he is invested in.... That being aid I could start a whole other argument there that the whole Iraq war was about oil (and thus the 9/11 attacks were a huge gov. conspiracy just to attack irap in the first place)

<Sigh> Yeah, yeah, it's all George W. Bush's fault. This sounds like a slight variation on the leftwing parroting. He had quite a few intelligent people advising him. No president makes all the decisions. Most probably make virtually no decisions. Moving along...............:joint:
