anyone used greensand for gnats?

hey im about to put a decent layer of greensand over my soil to combat gnats. has anybody ever done this? greensand has potassium in it so im wondering will this amount of greensand throw off the nutrients or whatever?thx

hey i battled those fuckers for 2 months straight infestations after infestations..i will tell u exactly what to do! ok get rid of the 1st inch of topsoil..then replace with just playground sand ok..get you a NEEm oil insectacide make it into 75 percent full strenght.ok and spray the top soil good with it and the bottom leaves...ok now that u have that done, get you the yellow fyl insect sticky trap tape or papers/ or walmart have these clear winbow sheets that got a super sticky bait on them for insect flys and flys, i cutt em up... w/toothpicks i made little flags stuck em in my soil and i lined the edges of the pot with it and if your pot has a stupid self watering hole at bottom put some over that.ok everyday get a spoon/fork and turn over the top soil 3 times a day at least to keep air drying it. ok last advice of importance keep that drinage water in the bottom out! dry! they will nest eggs in the moist water like crazy! you will see this will work in about a week or 2 good luck!

great info man i am pretty much on the same track as you, but instead of taking the top layer out i just removed the eggs i saw so i only took 1/2 the amount of dirt out cause i didnt wanna throw away the stuff i put in there like cottonseed meal. i waxed there asses with neem spray pretty good, i put some lime down(thought it might help the ph)covered the soil with greensand using a measuring cup cause its more precise and you dont waste. i made some pest catchers outta big ass yellow lemons covered in petroleum. that should do rofl.
PS: you didnt comment on the POTASSIUM in greensand.

um in the right levels and as long as your nutes are ok you should be alright i think its kinda hard to totally fuck up the ph in soil! i fucked up w a N defency and i had to pump her full of high N for 2 weeks to get her back to good again i did it though she is coming around beatifully.. The Pottassium should be fine as long as it isnt high in it

i got a bunch of them out of my peat moss this go around. from what ive read they like to hide in there than come out when you water. i used some fly tape from walmart and just keeping the tops of the soil well broke up and dry. there almost gone but who knows if they will come back.

i woke up to find bad nute burn. dont use greensand. i took out and flushed. i also maybe used to much dishsoap with the neem. what should i do now. ican try perlite or diatomus earth
