the story, ....

we have 4 cats. there is a stray that comes into our house every night, thru the cat door, and eats all our cats food. i have seen him sleeping in my garden tool shed so recently i started leaving a bowl of cat food out for it. after a few days of leaving food out i wanted to male sure that the stray was getting food, so i bought a trail cam.

the solid black cat is mine.

the tabby cat is mine.

the black and white cat is the stray.

then the other night this guy shows up, .... 015 (2).jpg

he doesn't eat much and leaves the cats alone so he's cool.

the problem is, this guy showed up 20 mins after i filled the food bowl last night. he ate it all, leaving none for the kitty. i don't know what to do now.

raccoons are pretty cool, try feeding it live shrimp. Very entertaining to watch
it was in my kitchen twice last night. i woke up and found him trying to get into the cat food. i stood there for 5 mins staring at it before he casually walked away. he looked as if he would tear me to pieces if he really wanted to.

I don't think there is much you can do when the coons find cat food. They sure can do fatal damage to cats/dogs.

rabies is a tough gig, and is easily caught from rodents and varmints-

a good slingshot with a steel shot will kill a raccoon easily. or a crossbow? or if you are not a murderer live traps are 40 bucks.

No no no. Sure the dog will win but the dog could take a bite and if the animal is carrying rabies that's not good for the dog.

All kidding aside, get a trap to capture it. Then you can safely kill it without any harm to yourself or others, including your pets. If you don't want to kill it either take it somewhere far away and release it, or just simply release it on one of your enemies properties. =)

actually, i feed them from my hand.

it's sad that you'd kill something simply because it is being defensive.
I'm being defensive as well. If there is something lurking around my house that could potentially be a serious threat to my health or my pet's health then I will take all measures to ensure that the threat is removed and safety around my dwelling is restored. That's just me though.
