copper wire for slugs?

friend of mine is having a slug problem. i had this problem so bad years ago that i had to change my crops' location. i remember reading on high times you can put a ring of sand around but anytime it rains, which it has a lot lately, you have to replace. i heard you can put copper wire around and the slugs will not crawl over the copper. like it irritates them or something kinda like how nickel irritates some ppls skin. anyone know if this is true? have you actually seen it done? it may be too late by now for my friends crops but it may be good to know for the future.

I've heard the same thing, but it shocks them I guess. Coffe and salt works to a degree but not when its wet i don't think.

how does this work? do they like drown themselves in it? kinda like how fruit flies drown themselves in wine?

The absolute best method I've used in the slug war is to take a regular empty water bottle, cut the top off right under where the neck has become the same diameter as the body of the bottle. The top gets flipped over and pushed back into the bottle so the mouth is now facing the bottom. Fill the bottle about 1/3 of the way with beer or juice. I used grape punch frozen concentrate in mine the other year and slugs could not resist it.
Out at your site just lay the bottles on their sides all around your plant bases. The slugs can climb right into the trap but can't get back out and drown. I was amazed at the solid mass of slugs inside of the bottles when I would go to check them out. Good Luck!

only thing is i dont know if it would be good for water to get in the coffee and salt and then get in the soil. i dont know about weed, but coffee stunts bean plants(seen an experiment back in school). and im sure the salt could cause problems as well.
