Will running 12v pc fans at 19v damage them?

if so what damage will be caused and how long will the life of the fan be diminished?

its hard to say for sure how diminished the life of the fan would be but it would probably overheat and cause burn out.

2 words.... fire hazard. radioshack and many other like place carry power supplies pretty cheap. make sure to match the voltage and mA exactly

i have a 12v charger and all but i forgot to plug it back in yesterday morning and the temps in my box went up to like 110+ and my sativa dominant clone was wilting away(i put her in a windowsill for now) so i hooked up a 19v laptop charger to my fans to cool it down quickly and it worked and i was noticing amazing drop in temps.

its usally about 80-93 in my box, but when i hooked up the 19v temps went down to like 76-85 after about two hours

so i was wondering how much of a risk it would be to keep the 19v running them?

EDIT: o ya i kept stopping the fans every 3-4 hours and feeling them and they didn't get much warmer than they do with the 12v

it will work thats for sure but at what risk? 1) catch on fire 2) blow a fuse 3) burn out the fan. regardles i promise no matter what 1 of these things will happen. i guess if you stand there while its running but it will still end up one of these ways. they sell 6 inch fans at target and wal mart for $5.

If you can get yourself some 12v power supplies the fans in the pics are awesome considering they are pc fans

You should be able to get one if you google it or ask in your local PC store.

Radio shack may even get one in for you.

If you get yourself one it has a PWM 4 pin connector.

IN this connector there are 4 wires BLACK YELLOW BLUE GREEN

BLACK and YELLOW are the power leads. Connect black to Negative and yellow to positive. This will run the fan on full speed. if you touch the BLUE or GREEN wire i cant remember which (im a bit baked off some cheese) to either the Positive or the negative it will run on its slower setting.

So you could have a dual speed fan too.

I personally dont use the slower speed but its good to know heh?

they got a great selection at best buy, those fans do work great.
