Whats optimum for a 8'x10' room

Will be legal soon and I want to hook up what used to be a photo-developing darkroom in my house.

I figure I'll make a sealed chamber for vegging and still have about 8'x10' feet of space.

I wont go over 6 flowering plants and want to use a light that will grow them to their full potential without having to worry about the light being too close and causing heat issues.

That is a huge space, so take your pick on light size... The real question is how you plan to cool it, that will dictate your light size more than anything.

Well I want to grow no more than 6 plants probably so I was hoping a 400 or 600 would do that well without heating it up too bad in there.

It's in a basement and I'm actually hoping this winter the light would help warm the room.

You may want to think about the price of powering your grow. I know my Power bill went up 350% using 2 400 watt lights.

if your worried about the cost, and your going to be doing this legal, ide say forget the cfl's and go with some t-5's then maybe flower with a 400w hps... you'll be running on a shorter photoperiod so it wont be as bad, might as well use the t-5's to veg them nice and then flower with that 400w. Hard to beat HID ;)

i dont know what im paying for my electricity without checking it. But for my grow Im using 700w of light a fan on all the time and the A/C cranked to keep the temp right... and my bill went from 130$ to 240$ so about 100$ more a month. and this is in june and july when they jack my rate up cuz of the summer. plus ide probably save alot of money if i had a exhaust fan running vs. just using my a/c to balance that heat load along with the rest of my house.
