Ok before this gets flooded with anti Miracle-Grow posts I KNOW I KNOW ive seen 15,000 threads about how it sucks the soil atleast. But about 3 weeks back one of my plants just started dieing for no reason, leaves started turning yellow and black i had a hunch it was a nute deficiency but being my first ever grow i had nothing to give it, my mom loves gardening so i figure "hey she might have something to help out" so i tear up the house looking for somthing, i find these Miracle-Gro Fertalizer Spikes and i get to reading and it says the ratio is 15-5-10(3-1-2) wich is a good veg ratio so i take a whole one and i put in with a small plant that later turned out to be a male it burned the hell outa it in 3 days as i expected. So i take the spike and cut off a inch or so long piece and put it in with the dieing plant didint notice much the first few days but now the plant has new growth all over it and its turned a dark green and the leaves are very shiney. So if you have no other means go out and buy you a box of these cut of small pieces and use em they havent let me down BUT if you put to much in they WILL burn fast.

The thing about MG is that most of it is time release. this means that you have little control over how much your plants get in how much time. You end up at the mercy of your watering schedule, and lack of knowledge about how quickly nutrients are being released. This isn't to say you can't use it, and experienced mj gardeners do use them successfully, but it's a lot harder to use them properly, and since most people here asking advice are relatively new to gardening in general, they typically have trouble with time release nutes. This is kinda what you experienced, once you did some experiments and got a better idea for how they reacted in your particular situation, you had much more success with them :)

Homegrown i have to make do unlike most of the people on here i dont have the option to buy the stuff i need to grow i have to make do with what is around me and with alittle tweaking you can have good results with these. unless you have a better natural way of getting nutes to them that i can go by in my situation im guna stick to the spikes.

CONNISSUER-no pics at the moments my camera is outa working order but when i get it back i will bump this post with pics

gobbly-with alittle experimenting and tweaking you can make them a very good source of nutes for someone who only has limited options thats the whole reason i posted this for people in my same sittuation.maybe i shoulda put this in general growing where there is more people with experience

Yeah, I hope my post wasn't seen as a detractor, that wasn't my intention. I think you're on the money, in a pinch, and with a little experimenting MG can work just as well as other ferts. It's just a little dangerous in the testing phase while you work out proper doses. It also makes flushing really hard, though maybe you could remove the spike to flush... I'd be curious if that worked...

Well then sorry to not be of help...if you wanna do better then fert spikes...learn to make organic tea's...don't cost $$ to make them. Start a compost, that will help you alot.

I don't know about the spikes, but the people on here that say you can't grow with MG soil, or MG all purpose plant food, don't know what they are talking about.
Don't believe me check out my thread "Kaya Gold 5 Gallon Bucket Grow" in Newbie Central.
I've got one plant that's 8ft tall now, and they are all flowering. Using MG flowering food now.

yeah thats funny you posted in my thread i was litterally just admireing your plants in your thread haha....the spikes are great in small doses and it was all that was available so i made do.

Never said anything was wrong with using MG nutes...you just have to be careful when you already have nutes in the soil...the time release nutes can do serious harm if you don't know what your doing. I know lots of growers that have used MG with good results.

really i dont know much about what im doing, i researched growing for about 3 months b4 i actully planted a plant thats about it=\ hope these things dont come back to haunt me

The best thing you did was do some reading and research. Too many people don't read up and just think they can plant cannibus and expect weed from it..most do't know the work that goes into it. I've been growing 24 years, and over those years i've learned alot things to do and not to do. I've had my share of failed crops, but i always learn from what i do.

yeah thats what people around here think throw a seed in the ground and it will grow i try to explain there is much much more but i get blank stares from them haha..this is the first of many i hope i really wish i could make a leagle living off of growing but i dont see this happening haha....and if you could go into a little detail about this "tea" you suggested earlyer it would be a great help.

Check out the organics section...it has all the info you need. Once you go organics you'll never wanna use anything ever again, you make food and soil with compost.

When its all said and done MJ is just another plant and will grow to full size with optimum conditions. I always throw a handful of seeds out. As long as the soil is kept moist, it will germinate and continue growing... but i also live in a very fertile area.

The spikes dissolve over time, so if you're anywhere near the end of that inch, good luck.
