3 months old. Short Plants. Problems. Please Help

I am a first time grower ever. The plants are about 3 months old and for the first 2month or their life i did not have a proper sit up. I was just using a regular desk lamp on them. now i have a 400W HPS light and they are loving it. I am worried that because i stunted their growth they will grow in a odd manor. Lots of leafs are now popping up and there is not all that much stem growth. I can see in my cup that the roots are fairly strong because i can see a lot of them. Im unsure if they are suppose to look like this. Do i need to prune them so that the stem will grow to be taller. I dont need super tall plants but right now they are tiny and im afraid that the more leafs keep popping up the stem will give out. Im using some plant food every 4 or 5 days with NPK ratios of 10-15-10.
Is this to be expected? will the plants eventually grow upward? Should i prune or even 'top" them. Any and all advice is welcomed.

if you want big plants use big pots

transplant them into atleast a 6 litre pot full of soil

wow those stems are skinney, hopefully they might fill out when you transplant and now that your using a 400W, you might want to tie them up when you transport them to there new big pots

I will be transplanting them into larger pots in a day or two. A friend told me that when i transplant them to plant them deeper down and prune the lower leaves off. Is this correct? Should i cut the lower leaves and plant most of the stem into the soil? I just had my first 5 leaf section come about. All the lower leaves are sets with 3.

They might for a bit, but in the end they will be fine.

Lots of leafs are now popping up and there is not all that much stem growth.

This is a good thing, and is a result of the added lighting.

You don't want to have root circling. You do need a transplant.

The only thing you need to do is transplant them.

That is too much of the wrong type of fertilizer. You will kill your plants at your current rate.

Transplant them into a 3 gallon container or larger and watch their growth explode over the next month.

I would not cut the lower leaves and bury, but it won't hurt it if you do.

if they suffered alot u should be worried your gonna end up with all males....they are in tiny pots u should transplant them. also when you transplant and start flowering them they should start taking off.

Ya when you transplant...bury the stem as far as you can to the oldest growth. If your looking for wider rather then taller plants...find pots that are wider, but at the same time still have some good depth.

he means the lower ones so he can bury the plant deeper

i would do this for sheezington, i heard the burried plant will root all the way to the top of the soil but it can take it 4 weeks, but the basic root structure at the bottom will carry on as normal so its fine

with those anorexic stems its deffo a good idea to bury them deeper

Thank you for the help. I will transplant into a bigger pot and bury as much as i can. I will get some good size pots that are both wide and deep. I do not care if the plant grow tall or wide. Right now i have them set up im my bathroom tub and thats where they will stay. I have been using the guest bathroom so loosing mine means nothing to me. When i pick out my potting soil is there a certain kind to stay away from? right now i have them in a miracle grow potting mix. But it there are getting transplanted and i can give them a healthier mixture i will. I do not have a PH tester yet but i think this is a smart idea for the bigger pots. Is it safe to use hydroponic additives for a soil based set up? If so i can pick up a stage 1 2 and 3 when i pick up my new soil.
I will take some pictures in a few days after the transplant.

We're advising a guy who does not know shit about growing and you come back with Mix Your Own! Why don't you suggest PH scrutiny or CO2 for that matter. Keep his variables to a minimum.

That's why i told him to check the organic section...it will have info for him to look at for the future. I figured he had enough info on the topic he needed so i gave my extra 2 cents for his future endevours.

ide personally stay away from any MG product. i swear once they gave me spider mites. mixing ur own soil is the way to go if ya dont wanna buy. compost with some lawn/leave clipping can go very far. check out organics section. bat poo and sea kelp ftw

Thank you for all the suggestions on soil. Im going to the hydro store today for lunch. I missed them yesterday and was just a little late after they closed. Im not sure what strain they are. We just found some seeds in a nice bud and decided to give it a try. I'll be happy if i can get just one of the three to flower. We first started out with about 18(most of the seeds were old and saved over months) plants and i think that because we didnt put them in the right environment with the right lighting most of them turned yellow and dried up on us. after we lost most of them we figured we would go and get a book to help us out. The book we got is called "The Cannabis Grow Bible." the book is really think about 300 pages and seems to cover just about everything. I was under the impression that the plants needed to be taller before the are transplanted but after listening to everyone i think the roots are strong enough to do this and that is the reason they are small. I got some large 5gal buckets yesterday to move them to.
The book is nice but i think it is needed before you start and what i did was start mess up and then i tried to use the book to get them back to what i thought they should be at. We got this book about 1-2 weeks ago now and thats also when we invested in a light better suited for them.

You're on the right track getting that book...alot of old school growers have been using the grow bible for along time...of course its been revised a few times...but it's got great info. Awsome on getting the 5 gallon buckets...you'll get some big bitches outa those. If your going to the hydro store...look for organic products...Advanced Nutrients is usually at most places, and is highly recomended...althouogh if you can find Atami B'Cuzz preoducts...grab em...i've been using them for years...and i've had the AN before...but my results were always better with Atami products.
