so RIU comes to the rescue....again....I searched "trimmers", and lo and behold, just the thing for an inventive guy like myself, so today I spent 2 hours and zero $$ on a beast of my own, which should take at least some of the headache out of trimming, at least wet, when the time comes, and the time is coming!

I'll post a thread in the correct section, just wanted it here as well for anyone who's following my shenanigans......

Sometimes it pays to keep bits and pieces around for projects that might arise, I'd bought this fan for a car project that it proved insufficient for, and it's been collecting dust for years, an old fan that didn't work contributed its grate/shroud, and the half-barrel was full of old crap in the shed, and somewhat deformed. A couple wood slats to reform the barrel, zip-ties mount the fan to the grate, and a bit of wire and there you have it, a 12 volt trimming machine.

Did I mention that I've been a machinist and fabricator for 25 plus years, sidelined now by injuries that have taken me out of the game. It's a bitch getting old.

If it does a good a job on bud as it did on the test subject, an oak branch, I will be quite happy. This thing should trim as fast as it can be cut off the plant.

Started with the Jack's Blossom Booster this morning, mixed at half strength for now, and was pleased to find it had much less of an effect on water ph than the previous MG product I had used.

My water from the tap is a consistent 8.3, and the Jack's brought it down to a perfect 6.5. Must be a more balanced product, from the ingredients, it does have potassium nitrate, a ph lowering chemical, and just the right amount.

I'll also be using molasses @ 1 Tbsp per gallon in my alternate waterings, discontinuing that 2 weeks prior to harvest for a clean flush.

Went to a friend's spot in Marin today with the trimmer, he was harvesting one of his gro-bots there, and the two of us cut and trimmed 100 plants (albeit a bit small) in less than two hours. To say the least, the trimmer was a big success. He forked over cash for me to build him one immediately. They will require some hand work after drying, but the simple, cheap device did in two hours what normally takes 4 folks all day.

It was abusy day...........time for the ol' man to hit the hay. Thanks RIU community!

recipe is post #10, on page 1.

This whole thread started with needing instruction on tying them down, what you see topping the fence now are the side branches of the big main branches. I must have them tied in at least a hundred place, I gave up, to let weight and gravity due its thing over the next few weeks.

Thanks for the SSSSWWWEEEEET comments!

Tie them down and all the branches reach for the sky like the main cola, increases yield.

Got just over a pound dried off of this tied down White Widow.

this is some great info here...thanks so much for posting it.
I have a question on your trimmer....is the fan blade placed as close to the grate as possible to create the cutting level?

you have me intrigued...........

All is well with the trainwrecks, they are beginning to show some sign of what I believe to be flowering.

I've posted a new thread with question as the my cute little O.G. Platinum Kush that appears to be starting as well.
LOL!

Trainwreck is a very odd strain. Its growth pattern is much like its Thai parentage. All branches and small buds. Smell is fairly low with TW, compared to indicas. You'll be surprised at how much it yields. Support is going to be important in about six weeks.

in reply to rolled1....the blade actually rubs very slightly until the unit is turned on, then the blades flex a tiny bit, and clear the grate just slightly. This fan has thin aluminum blades with a flat edge, so about 4" of each blade is in contact with the grate, it took a little tweaking of the blades to get it just right, but now it cuts cleanly without snatching buds off. Anything that fits thru the gate is cleanly cut.

If you read the earlier post, one friend and I did 100 small plants in just over 2 hours, he called yesterday, and even dry he said the trim was still quite close, basicly just needing a little bit of a 'haircut' to finish. He has one on order with me now, I ordered his fan this morning, from Summit Racing. I also made a new stand for mine, as the barrel inhibited some of the suction, with the backblast coming up around the fan assembly. I'll use a box underneath to catch the cuttings if I'm worried about it. I did give some thought to cobbling up a screen-wire bag.

Don't waste that trim!

It will average between 10% and 20% of the THC content of buds.

We eat a LOT of Cannabutter stuff. It does a great job of stretching bud!

(I had composted my trim for a decade before my wife started experimenting with butter. I only toss roots and stems, now, and have even considered making butter with the stems. We used to make tea with them(late 70s), and get hammered!)

No way it goes to waste, cannabutter it is this season. I'm going to try the edible thing, in an effort to get some decent sleep, a nagging injury has kept me from getting a full night's sleep for nearly four years now.

A friend turned me on to it some time ago, and last week gave me a treat that had the time-release effect that makes it easier to rest comfortably.

I ducted the fan(hard to see)but it shoots the sheared material straight down, so a cardboard box will catch most of it. I'd have brought back some trim from my adveture to Marin, but he's infested with critters that I don't want around here. As it is, I sprayed the whole apparatus down before moving it back into my yard. I'm taking no chances.

Do a search. There are a lot of recipes around.
Indeed there is, number 1 tip, clarify the butter, or use ghee! This produces much better end product without the impurities of normal butter.

Great grow, got a couple outside at the mo so will be interested in seeing the end result.

Peace, DST

Hey Dude, I have a full-sized hash making set-up. I'll trade you the use of it, for the use of your trimmer. You can make all the hash you could want in one day, while sitting on your ass drinking a beer!
Think about it

Your grow is doing great!

Peace

P.S. If I remember you are local, NorCal right?
