root bound in buckets?

I was asking about how much room for my ladies to have from one another and if they should be beside my other plants which are budding and a fella said to transplant in the ground and i will have a better crop..know i only have 2months of growing season left, so will transplanting in ground stunn them and it not be worth my while or should i transplant asap???? Also he mentioned getting root bound in the buckets ..i have 5 gallon buckets so am i in fear of gettin root bound? I have 14 clones which i planted way late in the year, they were all 8inches to 1ft when a transplanted in 5gallon buckets and now they are 18inches-3ft tall and seem do be doin well (pics on profile page)...i never been ROOT BOUND ............................
So should i transplant in ground for possble better crop?
and
Should i fear getting root bound if i dont transplant?

...you shouldn't get pot bound in 5 gallon buckets...however, a larger pot means less maintenance.

Go to my transplanting tutorial on page 38 of my grow thread. It is trauma free, and should give your plants a boost. A little more work but worth it.

The transplant into the ground shouldn't stun them too much if they are healthy plants, provided that the ground isn't total crap. Another option for you that would stun them less would be to put them into a bigger pot full of the same material that's already in the 5 gallon pail. It's a growing medium they're used to by now. Use something big like half of a rain barrel. I use 15-17 gallon grow bags myself. They're cheap, big enough to grow a pretty monstrous plant and I don't have to water very often until they get 7 feet +.

ok ..i have some stuff mixed up....and what i did was ,,first i dug the hole about three times the size of the 5gallon bucket...second i filled holes 50% full of soil im currently using,then put 25% of nutes and addictives you mentioned(or as many as i could round up), and mixed that all together in the hole and quickly transplanted my little ladies from their 5 gallon bucketa into their in ground home...l

I have got 10 ounces dried per plant in 5 gallon buckets. Currently I have sort of standardised on 50 litre tubs - about 13 gallons. One year I used a 65 gallon Smartpot, but found that the roots came nowhere near to filling it - so a bit of a waste really.

i guess the ones i just transplanted were more like 3 or 3.5 gallon buckets,,,and roots were all way to the bottom,,and will have to see in few days how they make out..




im transplanting my smaller plants which i planted late in season from there small 3 gallon buckets and into the ground...

I would guess that in a couple days they will make out just fine, in a couple weeks they'll be making out just great. Once they're settled in you should get a nice size boost.

I grow in nothing but 5 gallon pots and never had any problems with root bound, although I do have a massive root ball at the end of harvest. they get plenty of oxygen andd nutes and 6'-7' tall.

I prefer a larger container than 5 gallon outside, mainly because it cuts down my time carrying pails of water. In a 15 gallon bag I could probably go 2-3 weeks without watering anything until they get to full size.

normaly wouldnt of transplanted but.. I was working like crazy this year and thot i wasnt going to get any plants out cause im always out of town....then off work for the first week in july i came across 14 clones from a buddy of mine..(god love him)..so i jammed them under some lites in basement to vegg for a while and ready for outside.....Anyways i went off to work again and my wife ended up having to transplant the clones into buckets for me a put them outdoors(and god her for trying) step by step instructions to the wife isnt fun.. She ended up putting half of the ladies in very small buckets( 2.5-3gallon)..Which is why i decided to transplant them in ground as the roots in smaller bucket were bursting out the drain holes in bottom of bucket....The other half are in 5gallon buckets and doing fine and staying put.....
