Oh grreat guru of Ganja!!
I just noticed that two of my 4 week old plants are definately showing the female hairs between the nodes. I think I told you that I was switching to an HPS light after my MH bulb broke last week, but they are still in 18/6 light mode...
Is it possible tha they are showing their female tendency this early and without going to "flower mode" lighting?? Am I the father of two little girls? Can they "switch" sex at this time?
Thanks buddy and thanks for starting the new thread--You da man!

haha...Yes, plants can show pre-flowers even under a vegetative photo-period...it's just them telling you that they're mature and ready to flower! You most likely are a father of 2 females! Congrats! No, they can't switch from female to male, but if they are put through constant stress (light stress, heat stress, etc.) it will cause them to produce male genitalia and become a hermaphrodite...
Thanks for the support and all the kind comments smitty! GL! and Congatulations once again!

Sup SLB,

is it possible to re-plant a vegging plant by washing away (gently) the old potting soil leaving just the exposed roots and planting it into a different potting soil ? I think my soil is what's F'ing up my plants...

Thanks SLB!
I am really psyched now and still have 3 more plants to see where they go
I have read that some folks go to an extended period of darkness before the 10/10 mode..Should I go to 10/10 right away? Do I have to go to 10/10 right away or can they continue to veg in 18/6 for a little while longer?
Cigars on the way to you from my girls...

It is possible, I've been able to pull this off successfully, (had an extreme fungus gnat infestation in my soil once) but it will cause just a little more stress than conventional transplanting...be gentle, like you pointed out, and you should be fine...

I assume you mean 12/12? Anyways...I usually give them a 36 hour dark period before putting them under 12/12 lighting, it helps to prepare them for the change in light cycle and minimizes stress during that transition...but, you can also gradually decrease the duration of the "on" time 30 minutes a day, until you reach 12/12, to simulate mother nature even more accurately...

I take it this means absolute darkness. If I go this route, I would not let any light in for a day and a half? How can I be away from them for that long?? Is it true that even a little light can harm the plants once they are in this mode??

Anything brighter than a full moon may stress her a little, try getting a green light of some sort? Even just a green party cfl on one of those clamp reflectors should be safe to use, if you wanna check on your babies...

Thanks SLB...Last question of the night...I was planning on transplanting to their final 3 gallon pot this weekend (was waiting for sex to show). I assume this is oK and then I can start the longer dark process.
Appreciate all of your help.

If you are transplanting right before flowering your wasting soil, you need to wait at least 1 week and 2 would be better to allow the roots to dig into the new dirt once you flip them to flower root developement slows way down as the plant changes its purpose

and Bob your doing a great job, I'm enjoying seeing good/correct answers given (often rare on this forum, as some of us are aware)
