Plant is Growing to Tall. What do you do? +rep

i have a bunch of plants in a 4x4 tent that is 7 feet tall.

the plants since switch to flower have tripled in size and are now 5 feet tall.

i could only move the light so high and don't know how much more these girls are gona stretch.

my question is what do i do?
can you cut the top of the plants off? i thought i read that someware, but What will happen to the main colas?

i am at the end of week 2 of Flower.

Hey,

Do you have room to tie em down, train em, or supercrop em? I had to Tie down a PPP plant that stretched 2x more than the rest of the plants.

as u can see in the pic there is no room to tie down. the plants i am talking about are the ones in the back. Super Critical Haze

something sounds sus about cutting the tops off lol ....obviously u could trim some stems of it like for cloning but i dono about cutting the tops of directly...and yeh u do have room to tie em down dude,....tie em with bits of string to the top sides of the pots..put a slit in the ring and tie the buggers down..if u do it right they get more light neway

no there is not room, there are 22 plants in 3 gallon pots in 4X4 tent and the 16 in the back are 5 feet tall, i cant even reach to the back.

there's treisling already separating all the branches and plants, i was not expecting them to stretch so much when they were switch to flower.

You def dont want to to them, that is done during the veg stage. If youre already at the end of the second wk of flower and theyve already triled in height then you shouldnt get to much more vertical growth out of them

Sorry bro, had the same thing with a mother i was using and didnt flower until she was 5ft. Had to switch my light all together and go with lower watts and just use more lights to kee from burning her

I agree with the trellis idea. Either that, or as everybody else said...tie 'em down. You don't really have tio bend 'em way over to the side or anything, just bend the top into a 'L shape', and tie it straight down to the side of it's pot. Yeah, it might end up being a crowded clusterfuck in there, but it's do-able, if you don't have any other choice. Whatever you do, don't top them. There's not enough time for the main to split in two main colas, and you'll end up losing some yield. I think I read that you can supercrop during flowering, which would work great, if it's an option. IDK, you'll have to look into it a little further, to find the answer to that. I'm a little lazy atm.lol

off topic but how does your tent work for you it doesnt get too hot or humid?

my tent is set up in a 5x4 walk in closet and the tent is 4x4, i have a insulated tubbing going threw the wall with a intake fan blowing AC air into the tent from the bedroom then i have a carbon filter inside the tent with a exuast fan pulling air threw the filter, threw the XXXL Hood then out the top of the tent threw insulated tubing threw the back wall blowing in the bathroom.

my temps are around 78 - 80 lights on and 73-74 when off, humidity is at 50

It sounds to me like you should top them now. I know its not an ideal situation 2 weeks into flowering but at least you are early in the cycle since it sounds like your options are completely limited. You will likely add a week or two to your overall flowering time and lose that particular main cola but it should be replaced by several smaller colas by the time you harvest. Good Luck!

I personally would not recommend topping even during early flowering.

I did this on my current grow and it completely stunted the plant and then turned it Hermie.

If you can i would follow the advice for the L shape tie down. THis seems the best solution to your problem. WIth tie'ing down the main stems you dont cause any major stress on the plant.

Depending on age I would do one of say four things. One top them. Just straight out cut them. Two, pull them over, or weight/tie them. Three spray with bush master or chi, or an alike product that stops verticle growth and promotes budding/bushing etc. . . or last and not my favorite or probably yours. . . . new grow area with more height. . .

A simple topping shouldn't make any plants go hermie just by itself by the way. I have pruned in any given stage you can think of without this happening. I not saying it would be impossible, but usually hemy type stress is caused by light or nutrient issues. Quick and extremem changes to climate, food, or light. Not a simple pruning, usually. . .

You can use weights, or strings, with varying tentions to accompish this. I prefer the foliar spray or the topping, or both. The only issue you should get from bending is actually a good one. You should actually get more bud, because now more nodes with have lite on them, not just your tops. . . . . .

yea i dont want to top them, they are way to tall for that, as for bending them thats prob my best bet. what do you think of this method ? click on diagram
