\\\____dwc conversion setup____///

So I descided to take a new approach at all this, I descided to go with a DWC Setup... I am going to 100% Convert over depending on how my first grow goes... So far I only have one of my Clones in a DWC Setup I made myself... Here is the break down for you all... :hump:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I took a 2 Quart container as the main chamber (Res) and a round tubaware container (Lid) as the top piece... They fit together perfectly :) I cut a hole in the round container just big enough to fit my clones in the top air tight, I cut a slit in my retaining medium (Non Porous Sterile Rubber) inserted my Clone with roots to a perfect fit :leaf:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I round cut a hole in the top of the round tubaware container (Lid) to fit the air tubing through so that there is no gaps in-between the top lid and the main chamber (Res)... I put alluminium foil, shinny side down in the top round part around the base of my clone so that in the future when she grows there is a reflective piece shinning light underneath her...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With everything attached inside and to the main chamber (Res) and the top round tubaware container (Lid) we are ready to go grow bubaponically  The air stone and pump are running perfect and very quite, I cant even hear a bubble poping...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let see how everything goes... :leaf:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I need a couple questions answered tho, how high is the water level suppose to be...? Right now I have it about a 1/4 inch space between the water and the medium... The clones roots are in the water also, about a 1/8 inch up the main cola... Is that ok...?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DWC Clone 1 Roots 1.jpgDWC Clone 1 Close Up.jpg
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Should I have the roots that much in the water at the start or gradually work them deeper into the water...?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Should the Air Stone bubbles be directly hitting the roots or off to the side of them...?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right now I am only using Distilled Water (pH 6.5 to 6.6), no Nutients yet, I need to know what Water Nutrients I should use... What do you recomend...?

now i felt i could help...not the most experienced grower but with what i have experienced, its going well so far

water level - for bubble cloner, even before roots, i had not quite an inch of the main stem (poked through a 1 inch rockwool cube only) dipped in the bubbly water...after rooting has begun, the clones are now in a net pot and i had the water level bout an inch ABOVE the base of the net pot and inside the medium...after roots develop, i had the water level bout an inch BELOW the base of the net pot...so long as well-oxygenated water is getting to the roots

my bubble cloner is an 8 site cloner and i have bubbles throughout the whole cloner...so id say it doesnt matter whether the bubbles directly hit the roots...actually thats the whole idea of the bubbles...ie. providing oxygen to the roots

as far as nutrients go, i dont kno where ur from but General Hydroponics is pretty universal id say and i havent actually used it yet but i have some on its way...from what ive heard and what led me to wanna use it is how easy it is to use...there are different recipes out there regarding GH nutes and how much of each part u apply during each phase of the grow...other than GH, im in Australia and im using DutchMaster nutes and not all that impressed but everyone talks about Canna nutes here which i think are also quite universal....and we dont get it here, but Fox Farm nutes is meant to be good

hope my little bit helps

Ok sounds good to me then, I will keep all that in mind and use it to the best I can...
Are you sure that the bubbles wont damage the roots by vigerisley moving them around causeing them to break off
from the force of the bubbles currents...? Just wondering...?

Thank you, for your responce :leaf:

Great work mate im working on the same kinda project what size pump do you currently have ?

i was told the more bubbles the better i was also told the cooler the water the more oxygen will stay in the water or something like i was hammered when i was reading it

"i was hammered when i was reading it"
LOL, make sure you also review everything again after you have sobered up, so that you dont end up doing something wrong...

And yes, the more bubbles you have the better! I have a little Aqua Culture: 5-15 Gallon, Single Outlet Aquarium Air Pump, 1 ct, nothing powerfull at all... I am going
out tomorrow or the next day and getting a nice 2 to 4 output air pump, maybe a Superfish Air Flow 4 outputs Air pump, or really any good and strong pump that has
2 or more outputs... I still have net pots, vermicule medium, sterile clay medium and perlite on its way, as well as some rockwool cubes :) Once I get those in my
setups will look alot cleaner and have alot more to them.... Maybe even add some Aeroponics into the onsombile, ya never know........... :leaf:

Hey

I was jus wondering would you be able to use the pebbles out of a Fish tank in the net pots in stead of the hydroton clay balls ?

Are you going to make that Rez light proof i heard the light can prune the roots or something and you could have alge problems due to the light hitting the water e watching

Nice works BTW

You can use fish tank pebels, why not... They are a medium that is not porous but can still trap some water for a bit until it strains through...
Just try and stink with anything that doesnt absorb water and strains well...

And yes I am still in the process of covering up my Res, these are only prototypes... The main setups are still being drawn up and built by me,
plus some stuff is on its way here from ebay... :)

Hey man nice setup. I do have some advice for you though:

Your container you are using should not be transparent. I use a black bucket to keep all light out, cause it could cause algae or warmer res temps. Try putting a flashlight in your res tank and if you can see light peek through, then light is going to come in from the outside and your roots need to be in complete dark. When getting ur setup online or whereever youre gonna get it, make sure it isnt a thin white bucket lol. If it is, maybe keep the res out of the light somehow. My bucket is black which means it absorbs light and heat, so i painted the outside white. That means no light gets in and it reflects all the light and returning it to the plant.
I am using a 5 gallon bucket dwc with a single netpot lid.

When starting out, i had the water lever touching the netpot until root were about 3 inches long from the bottom of the netpot. This may not be the right way to do it but it worked great.

I lowered it to about 5 inches from the pot a week later.

when i started out i had i 4 inch airstone which kept moving to the side of the bucket, hence the roots werent getting touched by direct bubbles, just the bubbles that skimmed across the surface of the water. This worked for me and she grew like she was supposed to, so dont worry about that. 3 weeks later i added a second airstone since my pump is a dual output.

The more bubbles, the more oxygen and nutes the roots can take in.

I use Botanicare products for my grow.

Hope this helps, and if you want to see more details about my DWC setup, check out the link in my signature!

Good luck on your gro brotha!

I see a possible problem with using gravel from a fish tank, may not be a problem at all, but, every fish tank I've ever had grew algea on those pebbles causing me to have to clean out my whole tank. I do not think that those rocks are ph neutral like Hydrotron clay pellets are, but, who knows?

Standupp is right about the bubbles, the more the merrier!
