Grow Box Design Support

Hi guys, I'm looking to build a grow box in my basement and I really need your input. I'd like to have several chambers in my box to house the different stages. Ideally I'd like to have a veg area, a flower area and mother/area, but I'm not sure if I have enough space. Overall box size will be 7' tall, 4' wide and 3' deep. I've uploaded a picture of how I'm thinking about setting my box up.

Right now I'm only concerned about how the space in the box will be divided up, there is a ton of info on this site about lights, ventilation, etc.. So I think I'll be able to figure all that out (with a little help) once I got the dimensions.

My main goals are to harvest as often as possible (of course), and to not have to continuously buy seeds or clones.

Do I have enough space for my 3 chamber idea?
Is there a more efficient way I can set up my box?

you really dont need to separate the mother from your vegging plants unless you want to

Yeah, unless your using different schedules, hes right. Looks like a killer setup.

Maybe consider loosing the 1' overhead, and make the mother room smaller and make that a utility area. Youll find out really quick, your gonna have a bunch of supplies to put up, LoL.

Make sure u get the most height in the flowering room, you dont wanna run out of space.

I assume you may scrog in there?

What type of Lighting?

I like the dimensions, but i def think you can cut off some width of the veg area. How many plants do you plan on flowering @ one time? One thing i learned right off the bat, is to know the exact size of the floor and size/types of pots your going to use. I always use square pots, since I cant seem to build a round growbox.

I guess you could use the formula for plant height, it will be 2-3X taller once done flowering. So, I think a flower chamber should be 2-3X bigger, since the plant AND the pot's are going to be 2-3X bigger as well.

How many plants do you plan on flowering @ one time?

I'm thinking 4-6 depending on my final set up. I can only have 12 total so I'm not sure what the best set up would be. If I had 2 mother plants (2 different strains) at all times, I could have 5 in active veg and 5 flowering, making 12 total. does that sound ok?


So you guys think lose the 1' over head so the flower room is the 7' tall.
Use 1 chamber for moms and veg and turn the other chamber into the storage area.
How tall / wide do you think the veg room should be?

I might just make this a flowering box, and make a separate veg/mother box. Would 450w HPS be enough for 4 x 3 or should I try to get a 600w ?

Id go 600 if i could. I REALLY REALLY want a lumatek, check em out, dimmable and stuff. If you get a 600, you can dial it to 600/400/360WATT, and use both HPS and MH bulbs.

Yeah, I started out with a small scrog box, its a veg box now. You really do not need as much space to get them going, especially if your using clones.

Iam currently building a box of the same dim. just a foot shorter and it will also only be 31" deep t o save wood. Same basic design as your original. I have 20 ballasts ranging from 70 to 400 watt mh and hps and enough fans to cool a house. scribed to this thread.

Hello I would like to know if some one could give me a idea on how to build a stealth veg box i want to grow my own veg and have to closet space for it but dont want it to be large at all maybe the size of cabinet but i dont know what to do or were to start as far as materials dimensions and so forth i am pretty handy at building things but i just am not good at designing concepts very well if anyone could help or give any good ideas please let me know and also i would like to keep the whole process easy and the materials as inexpensive as possible and eco friendly as far as electricity usage

Well, thats the beauty part of the the whole "OPEN SOURCE" idea we have going on here, take his ideas, and OTHERS and make it fit your space.......................... For most "cabinet" growers like us, we usually make due with what is available to us, and modify things to make them better for our use. You will be surprised that just about everything has a use in a grow room/box, LoL.

You would be better off finding, or buying a REAL cabinet or wardrobe - and then convert it into a grow box. Then, it doesnt looks suspicious. But if thats not an issue, get to lowes and get some boards dude!!!
