Im in, nice grow.
I run Vk in my perpetual grow...it's a favorite w/ all that I share it with. The mainstay of my grow right now. I have to stake mine or the tops will collapse at 5-6 weeks

Glad to have you along. Yessir, them girls will grow some ridiculous tops. I used to tie or stake the tops and side branches, until, on a whim, I decided to try LST on it and suddenly I was growing cola gardens sturdy enough to hold their weight. Keep an eye on things and if you're working with the same pheno I am, you may want to give it a try, growstyle permitting.

I'm giving some thought to tossing my PW mother into flower with this batch, the fellow I was going to give it to has no room at the inn, it'll cost me some yield on the VK, but will give some variety to this, my first grow, at RIU. Y'all sound off and let me know what you think, if you want, I may go ahead and toss it in.

Good morning one and all, time for the Monday morning update. The VK are doing quite well, lots of new growth and lateral spread. PPM has began to drop a good bit when the res is topped off, so we know they are doing their thing. Today is the beginning of week 2 in flower, and the res was changed this AM, this is right around the time that the plants should begin rapid development, stretching and spreading to completely cover the res top. On the subject of the PW clones...they're hanging in there. They look rough, but they always do, so I'm pretty sure they'll come back around. The Blueberry Funk, the name given to this BB cross is already showing some new growth, but there is some minor leaf twisting. I'm guessing that the FFOF soil I potted it in was just a little hotter than the soil mix my buddy was using. Y'all let me know what you want to see done with the PW mother, it finishes a little quicker than the VK, so if want them to finish off together, I'll need to move it into the flower tub in the next day or two.

Tossed in a root pic today to show the explosion of root growth. The runner roots have a slightly darkened appearance. That's not a trick of lighting, it's normal with the H&G stuff. I'll explain. The Great White/Root Excelerator/Algen Extract coats the roots and leaves them looking almost black. When you back those three ingredients off, the roots come back to their natural color. It takes some adjustment in your thinking to accept dark roots as normal and healthy, but the fact is, it's doing exactly what it's supposed to.

I've gotten used to seeing your roots look like that. I was gonna ask if they were still being treated to H&G Root Excelerator, but I see that the answer is yes - what an awesome product.

Everything appears to be on schedule and looking very healthy S-W.

I've always been infatuated with the 'Purple Wreck'. I know much of it has to do with good marketing, a catchy name and the mystique of purple strains, but if you're considering droppin' it, then I have to re-align my thinking.

Despite the fan malfunction and heat stress, is the PW that slow and temperamental in the big green picture? Or is it just not your cup of tea (i.e doesn't work with your style and preferences)?

And I know everyone slams GreenHouse genetics, as TOO commercial, or all-hype, but I've only ever been impressed by everyone's results. So, I'm definitely all eyes if you crank out another run in a grow or two.

Well my Purple Wreck, obtained from Reserva Privada, which is an offshoot of DNA, has just about every annoying quality a plant can have. It's extremely nutrient sensitive, which I've sorted out through trial and error. It's also the most PH sensitive strain I've ever grown, punishing you quickly for letting it fall out of the PH sweet spot, which is a microscopic .25. 5.4-5.65 for anyone interested. The smoke is average, tastes a little rough and it's not a particularly heavy yielder. But the color of this pheno is just completely unbelievable, or I would have quit fooling with this strain months ago.

In the strains defense, it is a much easier plant to handle in soil, I'm just not really set up for soil right now beyond keeping my mothers.

Purple Wreck sounds like a pain in the ass, IMO. I only say this because I know there are several more tolerate, grower-friendly, purple strains currently available.

Are you on the search for a replacement to the PW, so you still have that variety in the garden?

Got that Blueberry Funk (his name for it, he bred it) cutting from my friend and it displays some nice blue/purple color, not as vibrant, but much tastier and a hell of alot stonier.

Good morning all, time for a quick update. All four VK are in full flower and the stretch is well underway. There are no issues that are causing any problems but ,frankly, there never are. This has to be one of the easiest plants to get a good showing from that I've ever grown, hit them hard with the nutes and watch them grow into beautiful, heavily laden bud factories.

I got no response from the community about the PW mother, so on my own hook, I decided to go ahead and flower it. In a week or so it will be far more advanced than the VK, as my PW is pretty much done after 56-58 days, VK runs more into the 63-67 day range...depending on how I want the trichomes looking.

Anyhow, all goes well and there will be some color showing here before to awful long.

I'm with you though, flower the mama. You have the B-Funk to take her spot and it would be no hassle to reacquire another Purple Wreck cutting, if you so desire. And heck, if at some point, you really want the PW back...a new pack of seeds, a rigorous selection process and you might find a better phenotype that time around.

Hey man, as far as the VK goes, it's a real winner. Hammering, connoisseur quality bud that a beginning grower can nail. It will endure anything and keep right on chugging along.

As far as emerging color on the PW...around 3-3.5 weeks the real color will begin showing, but if you could see it with your own eyes, not through my pathetic picture taking, the fan leaves will begin to show color in about 10 days, very definite violet tones that just don't picture very well.

Trichomes...well, you know me, I'm a sativa fan that seems to grow alot of indicas, so I had been known for taking them out a little early to keep the couch lock to a minimum. However, since adding the SLH into the mix for me, my wife won't smoke it at all, says it's to much for her, Ive been running my indicas a bit further to accommodate her taste...big gun stone. VK I take out at about 60/40 amber/cloudy...PW about 75/25...NL#5 50/50 and SLH I vary around a bit but usually about 30/70.

There is a day in every VK grow, when the plants decide to show that hyper vigorous growth all Kush plants are known for...that day was yesterday. I always love that day, because it's the harbinger of 3 weeks of the most insane growth a grower could ask for. While neither plant is currently taller than 10" (untie them and they'd be very close to 2' right now), the next couple of weeks will see an absolute orgy of growth, both vertical and lateral...but the most impressive thing is the rapid flower developement that keeps each day interesting.

Repotted the PW mother, cut a couple more clones off her, and set it in the tub yesterday. This is the first time I've ever grown soil and hydro side by side...always avoided that in the past, but these are unusual times, and it looks like my rotation is about to undergo a complete overhaul here in the next couple months. Happens every so often...PW is out, replaced by Blueberry Funk and it's beginning to look like the NL#5 is going to be dropped as well, in favor of a Strawberry Cough that defies description...just a little tough to grow.

Anyhow, that's where we're at right now.

No, I haven't grown any BB in quite some time now but there are still a couple of jars of it hiding out around here.

It is a DP Strawberry Cough, and it does have a well deserved reputation as a nightmare strain, especially when attempted by lesser growers. But as has been noted on more than one occasion, by more than one person, I am not a lesser grower...lmmfao...so when a cutting came available to me, I jumped at the chance, as I have partook of the finished product and it is a fine smoke...just low yielding, so good old Doc SouthernWeed will set up his individual buckets, run multiple feed schedules (all H&G, I'll just tweak percentages) and write the book on how to make the girl yield...or I'll crash and burn, stay tuned to find out which it'll be.

Morning all, running a little behind today, had some problems getting my update to, you know, update. That technical glitch has been overcome and here we go.

All four Kush plants are going to town, spreading and stretching and piling on a massive budset. Over the next couple of weeks the change in these plants will be remarkable.

Tossed in a new root pic today to show the return to natural color that comes from dropping the Root Excel/Great White/Algen Extract. I drop them a week sooner than the feed chart recommends with this strain, it's just a waste at this point...before long the root mass will be a mold of the inside of the tub.

Beginning of week three of flower and it's going very well. Changed the res out this AM. Good thing too, that solution was plumb used up. Caught some stem pinking yesterday, a result of P depletion that always shows up from week 3-5. At week 6, I'll begin adding the Bud XL and Shooting Powder and the show will really begin.

My PW mother is exploding in hairs and will rapidly overtake the VK. Around 4 weeks into flower the fan leaves will begin a color change that you'll be able to pick up in pictures...week six the buds will start changing enough to show in pics.

My PW clones are getting along, and I'll like likely be picking my best 4 in the next couple of weeks.

That's about all I got today...it's fun to watch, but difficult to report on, there's only so many ways to say the plants are happy and healthy.

Haven't grown any of the SB, it's been quite awhile since I cracked a seed. Back when you knew me over there, I was still trying to get everything set to keep a few mothers without completely overtaking my veg space. I finally was able to get it all set up...and then, by complete accident, I ran headlong into the local clone market and found all manner of really groovy things to play with. Simple fact of the matter is there are roughly a dozen strains available to me that I want to grow, I just haven't gotten to them yet.

Anyhow, great to see you again. Get comfortable, the good stuff is getting close.

So I've been holding out on y'all a little bit. I've said that the Purple Wreck would quickly overtake the Violator Kush, and that was based on clone versus clone performance. However, we're not going clone vs. clone here, and after what amounts to a 6 month or so veg, this mother was extremely ready to flower. So for the last ten days or so I've been watching the mother of all PW budsets take place. Frankly, I've never seen anything quite like it. I've already had to tie off one of the tops, and in a couple more days I'll be tieing off the other. An extremely hard frost has already fell and it's just been in 12/12 for 13 days. I am certain that this radically improved performance is tied to one of two things, or perhaps both...age or original genes. This has me so intrigued that I took three clones that were well rooted, put them in soil, and will veg them for 3-4 months and see what happens. May change my next grow plan a little but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Anyhow, I'll be mixing in some pics of the PW now that she's doing her thing, it's alot more fun than the very early flower pictures of the VK.
