I could not find the answer I was looking for. When transplanting how far from the bottom of the pot do you put the roots, or how deep do you plant it from the bottom? I am going to do some test on "rootlock" .

I was under the impression from what I have learned here that I want the roots to be able to grow more down than up, so if you transplant and there is on an inch of dirt under your roots they will hit bottom and grow up. Correct? At what point is rootlock? Pot to full to grow more? Just wondering someone told me to transplant to a bigger (5gal.) bucket so I don't get rootlock. Last year my plant was 5-6 ft. and produced well. The root ball when I pulled it was only as big as three average fist. That would have evn filled up a gallon pot, so therfore it could not have rootlocked, correct?

I appreciate the answer. I went ahead and transplanted all but one to bigger pots. I don't know how much good it'll do this late into the game. However, only one of 6 is showing pistols. When I started I had 8 and 4 weeks in 2 grew balls, can you beleive that...lol. I hope since the other males showed early the other 5 will be ladies as well. Again THANKS.

Your reply doesn't really make "sence" either. In fact, it just sort of makes you look like a clueless asshole.

He's asking how deep the bottom of his rootball should be from the bottom of the larger pot he's transplanting into. The answer is as far from the bottom as possible while still keeping it buried to it's original depth up top, or maybe a half inch or so deeper.

I prefer to pot them closer to the top of the new container if possible, but doing it the opposite way can come in handy to take a few inches off the height of the plant. In a couple weeks, roots will start to grow out of the buried stem.
