what happens if u let a plant flower too long... say it was time to harvest and u didnt... would the buds continue to get bigger or denser? what would happen?

It’s hard to go by the suggested flower time on the seeds but it should be within a couple weeks or so. I have had some be a week early and some now that are a month over. What do the buds look like? hair color etc?

i heard from a couple that if you wait too long the bud will actually lose qaulity..im not sure but if thats right that means you should chopp em on time

It's actually way more complecated than that. Based on the assumption of indica/sativa ratios, 100% or dominant sativas take longer to mature, but the genetic age of the plant makes the desired harvest time to be based on the color of the trichomes. With sativas you are looking for a clear to milky white. This will retain the up, cerebral, giddy, etc., characteristics of sativas. Indicas mature faster, but in terms of genetic age, you harvest them much later. You'll want to wait til the majority of the trichomes heads have began to turn amber. This is actually the THC degrading into cannabinol. That's not necessarily to say it's bad, if it's correctly timed. The later age of the trichomes on the plant preserve the stony, body, zombie, etc. characteristics of indicas. If you let it grow too long, and you can tell when all or most of the trichomes have turned mostly amber, the cannabinol does replace a large amount of the THC and can result in more of a sleep aid knock you out kind of stone, but it would also be much less potent. Hope that helps.

my plants have been on a 12/12 for about nine weeks now and they are still pretty clear. should i not worry about the flowering time and just wait for amber trichomes

Yes, exactly. but wait till they are done, trichomes are important when determining when to harvest, no doubt about that, but their are other just as important things to look at as well.

If you let a plant go too long it will start losing potency and if left long enough or with strains prone to it it will start making bananas on you.

why would it be taking so long. this is my second harvest with all the same strains, and all the first harvest came out on time. i grown all my plant in 5 gallon buckets except for two that i put into 10 gallon buckets. it think they might be blocking the light on some of my plants

did everything go smoothly for you this time compared to last time?
Yeah, right? 11 years later people are still experiencing very late maturing plants like you had and need reference points!

I'm have a grow personally on week 9 and no trichs are Amber, yet 25% are still very clear and all pistils have gone purple or orange and fan leaves are completely yellow and dying off. This are my Indica dominant strains, my sativa is still putting on weight and growing trichome stalks. A couple of seeds have even matured fully but zero Amber.
Potency isn't lost despite thc degradation, CBd, cbn, thca, etc will be more prevalent, leading to a more...physical stone vs a more cerebral high. Make sense?
Anyways, all my plants will be dropped 4/20 even if no trichomes have ripened. Just can't wait any longer....for what?
