veg to flowering stage

I am a first time grower and have 20 females under 2x 1000 watt HPS lights on a 24 hr veg cycle. I am going to switch them to 12/12 for lighting once I am ready for flowering. I have a question on when to start flowering these girls. I have heard the longer you wait, the bigger they are hence bigger more buds. I have also heard that is not all together true. At this point they are 12 inches tall, and very bushy (5 inches in width) and want to know i should throw them under 12/12 now, or wait until they are 2 feet tall to flower them? To be honest i am excited and want to flower them now. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Depends on how much vertical space you have, and also how much floor space. One thought- top them and let them get a little bushier, then throw them into flower. You will get a good deal of bud from 2 1000W lights, you just want to make sure there is a nice carpet when you start to flower to maximize the light you are getting.

I have 8 foot ceilings on this room so there is lots of space. I am going to top them and have been reading about that. I want to get maximum yield so i think i am going to wait until they are about 2 feet to flower. What do you mean "nice carpet" ?? Do you think i can get 2.5-3 lbs from 20 plants? or is that a little out of reach. I am basing that off 2 to 2.5 oz's per plant.

With 2 1000 watts i can say its doable

Nice carpet as in an even covered of green, avoiding gaps between plants etc. With your lights I wouldn't be surprised if you got more- growers getting 1 gram per watt is not uncommon, so you could potentially get 4 and a half pounds from your crop if they are tended carefully.

that is awesome, and exactly what i wanted to hear. If I threw them flowering at 1 foot would that yield be cut in half you think? I guess i may as well just wait 7 be patient. thanks for the advice, man. i will post some pics shortly.

If you throw them in too early it could, but with them being 12 inches they are at the very beginning of being ready to flower. By waiting until they are 2 feet, you will have a crapload more bud sites and will get that much more. You will have to feed the plants more, but let's honest, it will be more than worth it.

i would go to 18/6 till the stems alternate, that is when they are mature, from there, u just decide how long to go considering some plants stretch up to 3 times what they start at , good info from these guys, good luck!!

Looking good for two weeks in. With the 2 1000 watt bulbs and two foot plants, you will be looking at one helluva nice winter. Keep up the good work!
