Got a dumb question for you guys...well not dumb but i need some advice on how to do something. I know HID lighting is bad for seedlings. All I can use right now for my seedlings is my 400w MH. What would be the best way to use this light? i.e. how far should the light be away? I got it at 5ft right now. Btw im using a 4X4 hydrohut. What are the disadvantages of using HID lighting on seedlings....and i guess if it is a must I will drive the 1hour away to buy some flouros....thanks guys

You can use your light on your seedlings. You have it a good distance away. Is there anyway you could put something inbetween the two to create a diffusion? A scraf, shade screen that is used outside. Just remember that is a fire hazard and to keep it well away from your light. Easier still use a cardboard box to create shade and put your sprouts there.

Yeah, that's fine at 5 feet. I would move it down fairly quickly, like 6 inches every other day, until it's less than 2 feet above.

i dunno if the MH has enough blue in it..I think the 1hr trip would be worth it so ya dont cook ya little ones and you know that fluoros will do the trick for sure...plus its only an hr for your own quality home grown..i say invest your time..the payback is definately greater than what you put out..make sure u get a bunch of em..cfls are only like 4 bux each, get 4 or 5 of em.20 bux and uve got what u need. save the MH for budding..but if you wanna use the MH its definately possible and I have seen it before, but 18/6 might be too hot..

Metal Halides have plenty of blue in their spectral outputs, perfect for vegging - that isn't really an issue. The bigger issue is giving them too much light and too much heat, but at the distance he's got it - it should be fine.

Thanks guys for the info. yeah i have always used flouros in the past. Actually they were CFLs but I would need at shit ton of them light my area now. I would need 4ft flouros. Actually the hour drive is not the worst part; the worst part would be it would be very very hard to get a couple of 4ft fixtures into my house( neighbors); Well I am just gonna wing it with the MH and go from here. Will post pics of the C-99, Ak47, and Blueberry soon!

You can't tell if the seed is male or female. and the difference is one is female and the other one is male. There is also a possibility for hermaphadites yo.

there is no difference in height or growth. give it a lil bit and then clone for sex that is what i do. it all ways seams that the plant i think is the best is male lol.

males generally grow just a little faster when you begin flowering. If you are a few eweks into flowering and one of them starts to look really sweet, don't get to excited. its probaly going to be a male.lol They mature just a little faster, unlike humans, so their pollen sacks, which look like small balls, are ready to open when the females start flowering. Keep in mind that different strains could flower at different times, tho yo. And watch out for the transexuals. Nothing can ruin a good sensimilia crop like a hermie.

i am bringing some seedling up at present and they are in a gap between a 600h.p.s,and a 400m.h and my clones are on both sides under the lamps,it has co.2 and is air conditioned so that may help but so far so good,i lower the light every day but it is still about tree or so feet away,as clones are young also.:peace:
