Bud growing from plant

ok so my one outdoor plant is budding right now on the top. I had leaves on the bottom but they dried up and fell off so the bottom half of my plant is all stalk. I was wondering will the bud just grow from the part b/w the leaves and stalk or can it grow straight from the stalk?

there should be a chance to have a bud grow from every node, right at every fan leaf.

so if the leaf and node disappeared b/c they died off could bud still grow there or no?

Since the bud grows FROM that node, I'm pretty sure that wold be a no...

Its natrual for a plant to use the nutrients stored in there leaves to supplement whats not there. Kinda a safety mechanism.
Nope, like Tank said no bud will grow there but I'm sure it will grow new shoots where buds will form.
