Ive seen all kinds of info on the harvesting and curing and such but nobody has given a real good answer as to when to start this practice.

Im outdoor and believe to have about a month left on the clock.

I know that flushing takes 10+ days and such, but what I want to know is what signs you look for as the plant matures to start the flush. 3/4 hairs turn red? Leaves start to dry?

Growin in Happy frog with full line of FF Minus the big bloom

There are planty of pics of when you should harvest, just none of when to begin flushing

I base mine on trichomes - once I've got a third or more amber on the top bud I start the 2 week flush...after that (hopefully the leaves will be going yellow by then) I can chop...

Wouldnt u be like 60% or more amber by the time u harvest? Isnt that close to being over ripe?

Once you see cloudy trichromes about 50% start flushing, when they start to turn dark it's time to harvest. The trichromes that are turning dark is the signal that the plant is decaying, all dark is not great for smoking and in a lot of growers opinions it's junk.

As far as flushing goes I would switch to water and 20% food. Why add food when flushing???? First you plant still needs food for the next 2 weeks and it will use it to put weight on. The second and most important is flushing removes some minerals and micro nutrients fast than others, that's the big problem with just flushing with water. For example nitrogen is easy to flush out and one of the first to go, but if it goes to fast you lock the magnesium up in the plant. Does not smoke so well, ever smoke stuff that sparked or popped, yup mag lock out. (popping could be spider mites)

why not just use Clearex from botanicare and use nutes all the way up untill about 3-4 days before harvest and flush with clearex. from what I have heard works wonders and while your buds are fattning they get the nutes still. I will be chopping in about 2 weeks and I will use nutes for about 2-3 more waterings and go to Clearex.

I always wondered what made some bud pop and spark, but I never actually researched it at all. Good stuff woodsmaneh!

Are there other common causes or is that basically all of them?

If you've got the money to spend on it then go for it, it just KINDA seems like an unnessecary expense to me with my current financial situation...
