I start my flowering my plants at around 12" tall as they will grow 2-3 times the height when ready to harvest so a 12" plant can end up being around 30-36" tall.
Its best to wait until the plants show thier sex before flowering and this takes around 6-8 weeks of vegging.

Unless you have an autoflower strain your plant will not show sex untill two to three weeks after you put it flower mode (12/12). Stonerforever it depends on how big you want your plant to be at harvest it will grow 2to3 time bigger at harvest than it was when you start flowering phase. So plan according to space available.

You can flower when the plant is at least 1 foot tall and it will double in size if not more.
