4 main colas...

Last year I used a topping technique. Yeild was small due to larger number of colas. This year I did not top and most of my plants have 3+ colas. I agree that this technique works however I believe that the plant will form other colas without the use of a topping technique.

I have several with 12 big mains big as a 24oz beer and 40 small "Shafts" not sure what to call.

Plant was topped several times.

This is the first plant I ever topped. I've since removed the side growth beneath the V's. One little snip above the second true node when the plant had 5 nodes produced this. The main stem got thick quick and the side shoots became mains as well as the node growth at the 2nd.

This plant will have 4 healthy colas. I believe the reasons some claim to have the same dry weight as topped plants is because they are not feeding their topped plants extra nutrients.

Consider this, the plant now has four mains to support, all of their side growths as well. The plant requires more energy to grow and produce. If you top and then continue to feed your plants as you had in the past then yes, you may very well end up with the same weight as a non-topped plant, however your going to have a shit load of pop corn buds and I'm going to be trimming main colas.

Who can look at UB's pics on the first page and say those plants would have been better off not topped? Be real....

Well this one looks better than UB's on the first page, though UB had a huge 4 cola plant on another page in his thread that I lost track of:

Can't tell if this is trained or not.. I've never grown a plant normally but I think I might for comparison.

I guess I shall try feeding more as well but how much exactly?
Does this mean I could go over 2.0 EC cus I already feel like I'm feeding them a lot.

so it's untopped? How do you get it to grow like that? Just put it outdoors?
It is simply tied down - all the branches make like the main cola. If you look you can see the twine.

Such a simple and clearly effective technique I do not know why more people don´t do it.

you just tie the main branch down at a 45 degree angle? at what point would you do this? and youll adjust rope as the plant grows or no?
