Growing Mothers for Cloning Purposes ???

What system would grow the largest mothers, the fastest, enabling to take a maximum number of clone cuttings?

Would soil be best, ebb & flow, or perhaps deep water culture. How much faster is one compared to another?

My goals are to produce between 500 to 1000 clone cuttings the first cutting, after vegging for 3 months then letting the plants veg for another 30 days and take as many more clone cuttings as possible 30 days after the first cutting.

Thanks so much !

Soil in my experience is slower than any type of hydro. If I were trying for really big moms and lots of cuttings I'd probly go DWC, top/FIM early so she's nice and bushy by the time she gets big.

How many DWC buckets would i need to get 500 - 1000 clone cuttings after vegging for say 3 months?

Thanks for your help.

Are you talking about taking 500-1000 cuttings all in one shot? and then going into veg all at same time? I've found that it's very difficult to set up cloning routines/methods where it involves all cuttings at one time. I understand the uniform growth/canopy concern, as does everyone.. but its pretty tricky. Not impossible.. but a VERY large scale of operation just for the cloning area/ and the hydro moms vegging to give the cuttings (Yes I said Hydro because soil plants simply will not give you the output of cuttings Hydro will if you are looking for speed and amount). If you are talking taking the shitload of cuttings through let's say a span of 1-2 weeks then that's much easier..

But still to take let's say we just take the bottom figure of 500 cuttings that you asked.. each Hydro mom IMO after a good veg.. will likely give you 5-7 cuttings a day.. thats a good number but of course some mom's will be more abundant. Still you are looking at a good number of moms.

When it comes to large grows like you're asking.. most go with seeds. Large seed orders and try for a discount. Cloning usually is done by the smaller SOG growers.. indoors.. etc.

Or like myself.. where my hobby is strictly personal use and interest.. I don't grow such large ops and I'm more the connoisseur.. I purchase seeds of a strain i want.. get a mom out of it.. bonsai it and that's good enough for my grows/purposes. If i were to try for a large grow.. i'd just use seeds that i've gotten from breeding/pollinating and messing around with plants.

We made 1300 cuttings from about 75 plants of Skunk Kush done in soil this spring that vegged for 4 months, but wanting to speed up the process with less plants if at all possible.

You can definitely speed it up and lower the mom count by switching to hydro. Make sure your environment is optimized too. I agree with chusett, you'll have better results taking the cuttings over a span of a few weeks than all at once, much easier for the mom to take on that stress and keep producing.
