Hey, I never have a very good sucess rate germinating my seeds :cry: Just wondering what different ways there are of germinating seeds

I have only tried the wet paper towel method so far
 
I keep them on top of my hot water tank,(about 80*) with almost 100% success rate. Another good place is on top of your refridgerator. It's not real warm, but'll keep them from dipping below room temp. Also, you don't want the towels to be soaked, just moist. You should have germed babies within 2-3 days, 5 at absolute most. Also, make sure the water you're using, is the correct PH. Extremes can hurt them.
 
i drop mine in a water bottle, thats a pretty good one for me... if it dooesnt sprout all the way (just cracks,and can see white) i opput it into damp soil and works perfect

try dropping a coupl seeds in a water bottle-
 
i usually soak a paper towel and put it an air tight jar, it needs to be dark and in a cool place, i prefer a drawer. you might also want to open the jar every once in a while so theres no chances of mold. wait about two days and they should have what looks like white tails. and if your trying the method oAUSTiNo suggested, you probably wanna wait till the seeds fall to the bottom, this link shows his method. http://www.weedsthatplease.com/germinating.htm

Havent heard of that before. That link says nothing about air tight jars and cool places. Seeds like moisture, air, warmth and darkness.
 
When I germ I put my seeds in a shot glass with luke warm tap water and place them on my hot water heater. Give them a day then if they haven't fallen to the bottom of the shot glass I just poke them down and they fall to the bottom. The next day or two there are little tails poking out I plant the seed tail down in my media, which is normally rockwool but im going to sure to grow cubes next.
 
The trouble with MJ forums is they are populated by youngsters who have never grown anything else.

Seeds need moisture and warmth (25 - 30C) to germinate. The least problematic method is to put the seed directly in soil, about 5 mm down. Keep it warm and moist.

Then you will have the delight of seeing the stem appear, and produce an arch shape before the cotyledons are lifted up and above the surface, often still inside the seedcase. A beauty you cannot get with a soul less paper towel.
 
The 100% method that worked for me was grabbing a sheet of paper towel and making it damp(most common mistake is the paper towel being to wet) and placing the seeds on it and wrap it up carefully. Next put it in a glass jar with lid covered tight so the moisture is trapped in the jar. Now place the jar in a dark space where no light will leak and warmth is just right, above 75 Degrees F and below 85 Degrees F (example: closet, drawer, box) But what i like to do is dig a nice two feet hole and bury the jar where it is both dark and warm. After a couple days check on your jar and your germinating seeds should show a nice white root tip. Now all you have to do is put in pot or ground and plant away!
 
Between spanishFly's au naturale soil germ and the paper towel method I dont think there is any reason for burying it or putting it in airtight jars. I dont even let mine sprout all the way in the paper towel. I wait until the first bit of tap root is showing then throw it in the medium. So I still get to see the stem appear spanishFly:)
 
i find the best place to put them is in wet bunty (paper towel) and inside a drawer in your computer cabinet if you own 1 temp is usually PERFECT also u wanna put them in a lil sandwich bag with 1 side open nicely,

Agreed no need at all for airtight jars - might even have a downside.

Assassin, why then do you even bother with paper towels at all?? Why not straight in your soil?

I do the paper towel method because I have had %100 germ rate. The last, and only, time I did a soil germ I got zero. I know it was probably because of something I did. So, from that point on, I use the paper towel method just to make sure the seeds crack.
